About The Richter Harlequin Series 6 Speakers
The Richter Harlequin Series 6 floorstanding speakers in matt black have a clean modern look and a clarity and realism along with an exceptionally spacious sound which brings your favourite music to life and allows you to immerse yourself in an engaging entertainment experience.
Fortunately for us all, Richter continues to design, develop and engineer their loudspeakers here in Australia in consultation with their customers. The new Series 6 cabinets have been designed to not only look great, using their tapered cabinet design with new magnetic speaker grills, but have also been designed with performance in mind using Richter's bass reflex port tuning system for even greater control of room and equipment variables. Richter's wonderful loudspeaker stabilisers (outriggers) ensure their floor standing loudspeakers are always stable and sounding their best.
New Drivers: The 6½" (165mm) speaker driver cones are made from a new pulp comprising of paper, hemp, kapok and wool with an engineered fibre resulting in a very lightweight but stiff driver cone, then sprayed with an environmental surface sealant. These new midrange and bass drivers developed for the Series 6 Range effectively minimise breakup and roll off resonance and are probably the best drive units used in any speaker up to twice the Harlequin's very reasonable price. And they combine beautifully with the new ultra-low distortion soft dome Tweeter which has a clear and effortlessly airy sound that stretches all the way to an amazing 30kHz!
New Crossovers: The new improved drivers allowed Richter's chief designer, Dr Martin Gosnell, the opportunity to create magic with a brand new crossover design that minimises the number of components required in the signal path. High-quality acoustic polypropylene caps with air cored and ferrite cored inductors for the mid/bass and top end circuits were chosen which results in a very uniform frequency response across the spectrum.
The improved crossover not only let's all the drivers sing with one voice but also results in the Series 6 delivering improved efficiency making them easier to drive even when powered by more modest amplifiers or digital streaming solutions like the popular Sonos Amp. Staying true to the comment of Ralph Waters, the brands founder 'I'm not in the audiophile industry, I'm in the entertainment industry,' Series 6 has been designed to be an exciting engaging entertainment experience to make you want to start digging through that record and CD collection or start scrolling through your favourite music streaming service.
New Connectors: Richter Series 6 speakers all use Richter's new heavy-duty, high-quality gold-plated speaker terminal connectors which can accept a variety of connector types including: bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors and banana plugs.
Speaker Stabilisers: The floorstanding Harlequin S6 also comes standard with the new Series 6 Speaker Stabilisers designed to greatly improve stability (an issue in the home for many tall, narrow speaker designs) as well as to help improve the overall acoustic performance of the speakers. In a great piece of fresh thinking, the Series 6 Stabilisers will also be available separately (for $249pr) as an after-market upgrade for previous Richter MKV floorstanding speakers and these versatile stabilisers can also be used with a wide range of other floorstanding speaker brands with M6 threaded lugs spaced between 130-170mm wide – such as the B&W floorstanding speakers we sell. Genius.
Richter Harlequin In The News
"I tried hard to find flaws in this affordably priced loudspeaker, but it pretty much stumped me. What's not to like about a sub-$2,000 speaker that's designed in Australia, with an engaging and detailed sound and superb imaging to match? Factor in the fine walnut finish, proprietary drivers and excellent accessories, and Richter Audio's Harlequin S6 makes an incredibly strong case for itself in value for money terms. Some may find its balance a little too bass-light, but this tonality will suit other people – especially with smaller listening rooms – and you can always add a subwoofer should you so wish. I tried to play "spot the compromise", but it looks like I lost the game this time." Stereonet which also awarded the Richter Harlequin S6 its 'Applause Award' in recognition of excellence.
Our Take On The Richter Harlequin
The Richter design team is headed up by Dr. Martin Gosnell BE (Hons) PhD who has worked with Richter since approx. 2000 and is supported by the very experienced and highly respected Audio Engineer Brad Serhan. Together with the experience of audiophile owner Brian Rodgers they have really set a new benchmark in Australian speaker design. You could pay a whole lot more for an international brand name and get not only an inferior product, but one that doesn't sound anywhere near the Richter Series 6. The Harlequins will also please your eyes with their classic yet contemporary looks – perfect for your hi-fi stereo requirements, without breaking the bank. Please do not underestimate Richter speakers! They are world-class or better. But, do yourself a favour - compare and listen!
