REL Planar PL-1 Subwoofer - Delivering Deep Bass at Half The Size

We are excited to see this Sub hit the market! The REL Planar PL-1 is a subwoofer, we think the lady of the house will approve of. Its compact size, means it doesn't take up the space of a normal subwoofer, but it doesn't skimp on audio quality. This unit punches just as hard, how though?

Designed to adapt to real, modern living spaces, Planar supports multiple configurations, including wall-mounted applications, floor placement, mobile use via a rolling cart, and integration alongside in-wall speaker systems, all while maintaining full performance. Rather than forcing listeners to design a room around subwoofer placement, Planar integrates into how people live, not the other way around. Introducing versatility without compromise.

Using wall-coupled acoustic reinforcement and Airship Direct wireless connectivity, Planar is designed to work with the wall, not simply sit near it. Boundary reinforcement increases effective output without additional power while bass energy is projected using the full height of the wall.

PL-1 uses twin long-throw 6.5" drivers specially developed from proven REL driver platforms to deliver fast, dynamic bass from an ultra-thin cabinet. Working together, the dual-driver configuration increases surface area and impact while preserving the speed, articulation, and control that define REL performance. The result is deep, engaging bass that brings music and theatre systems to life without overwhelming smaller and medium-sized rooms.

Featuring REL’s boundary-coupled bass system, using specially tuned 10" passive radiators that fire toward the wall behind the cabinet to reinforce and expand low-frequency output. By working with the wall surface as part of the acoustic design, Planar delivers effortless, room-filling bass and remarkable scale from an ultra-thin form designed to integrate naturally into modern living spaces.

Planar PL-1 Designed For Modern Living

Planars were designed to deliver true REL performance from an ultra-thin form that integrates naturally into modern spaces. Their slim proportions, flowing radiused edges, and deep lacquer finishes allow them to occupy spaces where traditional subwoofers often feel intrusive. Every detail was carefully considered, from the recessed controls and concealed cable management to the optional hardwood grille upgrades that further elevate their architectural presence.

Available in black or white lacquer finishes, Planar PL-1 combine elegant industrial design with purposeful engineering, creating a subwoofers designed not only to sound extraordinary, but to live beautifully within the room itself.

300 Watts of Pure Class D Amplification

PL-1 is powered by a 300-watt Pure Class D amplifier engineered to deliver fast dynamics and exceptional control from an ultra-thin platform. Proven across thousands of REL subwoofers, this latest generation design combines high current delivery with long-term reliability, allowing PL-1 to produce deep, articulate bass with remarkable composure.

Conservatively rated at 300 watts, the amplifier delivers substantially greater real-world output under demanding conditions. The result is effortless performance for both music and theatre systems while remaining efficient, cool-running, and dependable over years of use.

Deep Bass & Flexible Performance In Ultra-Thin Form

Traditional subwoofers often demand significant floor space and careful placement to perform at their best. Planar PL-1 takes a different approach. Designed to work in close relationship with the wall behind it, Planar uses boundary effect coupling to produce deep, articulate bass from an ultra-thin form that integrates naturally into smaller and medium-sized rooms.

Whether mounted directly on-wall or placed close to the wall using the optional cart, PL-1 adapts easily to a wide range of spaces and systems. In many ways, it has become the Swiss Army Knife of REL subwoofers. Equally effective in music systems, compact theatres, unconventional placements, and even specialized applications such as center-channel bass reinforcement where traditional subwoofers often prove difficult to integrate.

Filtered To Perfection

REL’s fully analogue input filters play a critical role in Planar's natural and cohesive sound. By avoiding unnecessary digital processing, Planars preserve timing, tonal balance, and the sense of musical flow that allows bass to integrate seamlessly into the system.

REL’s renowned High Level Connection allows Planar to receive the same signal fed to your main speakers, creating a unified presentation that feels connected and effortless. Combined with our all-analogue PerfectFilter circuitry, Both the Planars deliver deep, controlled bass with exceptional speed and clarity.

Wireless Capability Of The REL PL-1

Unlike traditional subwoofers that require long visible cable runs, Planar PL-1 includes Airship Direct wireless technology as a fully integrated part of the design. By eliminating the need for signal cables, PL-1 preserves the openness and simplicity of modern living spaces while maintaining the speed, dynamics, and musicality expected from a REL.

The compact receiver integrates directly into a concealed rear-panel compartment and arrives pre-paired from the factory for effortless setup. No apps. No software updates. No complicated configuration. Simply connect power, position Planar, and experience true REL performance with the freedom of un-compromised wireless operation.

Why Choose The REL Planar PL-1 Powered Subwoofer?

Well for starters, the size! If you have limited space but still want the power of a normal sub, then this is the perfect place to start. With a dual 6.5-inch long-throw FibreAlloy driver configuration, powered by a 300-watt amplifier, it may seem humble, but it is extremely capable. The drivers are fast, controlled and blend seamlessly into a system without drawing attention to themselves. The wall works with the system to project bass into the room, delivering a sense of scale that feels far larger than the product itself. This really is a game changer for the world of bass!
