About The Zephyr Atlas Speaker Stands
Introduced in 1998 & designed & manufactured entirely in Australia, the Zephyr Atlas speaker stands are made for smaller bookshelf/stand mount speakers and are a great way to securely mount your speakers at the ideal listening height.
This elegant floor stand raises the speakers to the correct listening height and provides a stable, rigid support ensuring that you get the very best from your speakers, no matter which brand you choose.
The stands bolt together easily and are solidly constructed from black textured powder coated steel. Rubber feet are supplied as standard which are ideal for hard floors such as floorboards, concrete or tiles. Alternatively, there is a Zephyr ZSK-8 spike set available to help make the stand more secure and stable on carpeted floors. The heavy steel base ensures stability and the steel columns can be sealed and filled with Atacama Atabites to add mass and damping.
Note: Due to its corrosive properties, we do not recommend filling the stand with building sand or beach sand.
Why Do You Need Speaker Stands?
That question is often quickly followed up with another: "Can't they just sit on the floor?" The truth is you can put the speakers wherever you like but the location and positioning absolutely and significantly affect performance. When bookshelf sized speakers are placed on the floor or against a wall their sonic output becomes 'connected' to the floor or walls. This results in sound that is muddy, distorted and lacking in clarity. Speaker stands elevate and isolate speakers from floors and walls. Sound is clearer and cleaner with much better imaging and a greater sense of realism.
How To Make Stands Even Better: Where appropriate – such as with the hollow Zephyr columns, the ends can be sealed and 'filled' to further dampen vibrations, help minimise unwanted resonances and as a bonus extra, provide added stability. Audio Trends recommend that you fill the stands with Atacama Atabites inert filler to achieve maximum sonic performance.
