The Wharfedale Elysian 3R Floorstanding Loudspeakers

The Wharfdale Elysian 3R brings true high and performance to a more room friendly floor standing design. It's three-way configuration combines dual 7-inch bass drivers a dedicated 6-inch mid-range and Wharfdale's further developed AMT Tweeter, delivering controlled bass, natural vocals and an open detailed top end. Refined crossover engineering and optimise cabinet construction further improve clarity, making the Elysian 3R a beautifully balanced choice for serious music listening.

What Are The Benefits Of The Wharfedale 3R's?

Elysian 3R is engineered for listeners who want the immersive scale of a floorstanding loudspeaker without the footprint of the flagship model. It uses a true three-way driver array, allowing the bass, midrange and treble sections to operate with clarity and control. As part of the Elysian R evolution, the 3R benefits from refined crossover modelling, improved driver consistency and further optimised cabinet behaviour. Its dual bass drivers provide low-frequency weight and dynamic ability, while the dedicated midrange driver preserves the natural expression of voices and instruments. The AMT treble unit gives the speaker its open, fast and effortlessly detailed character. The 3R is compact by Elysian standards, but unmistakably high-end in performance, finish and presence.

Dual 7" Bass Drivers

Two coated glass fibre matrix bass drivers provide dynamic low-frequency performance with speed, control and articulation.

SLPP Bass Management

Wharfedale’s Slot-Loaded Profiled Port system improves bass extension and control, reduces turbulence, and lessens placement sensitivity. The result is bass that is powerful, fast, and consistent in usual listening settings.

New Finishes

Elysian 3R is available in Walnut High Gloss, Matte Black, and Lunar Grey, with stylish matte-black trim details.

Dual Binding Posts: The Elysian 3R floorstanding loudspeaker has two sets of binding posts connected by jumper-straps. The binding posts will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin connectors, spade connectors, & banana plugs (single only). Using these dual binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers. Bi-wiring or bi-amping the speaker can provide improved bass & treble performance.

Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).

  • Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
  • Note: If you decide to bi-wire or bi-amp, you must remove the jumpers between the terminal posts (failure to do this could result in damage to your amplifier and loudspeakers).

Mounting & Placement Options: If you are sitting within 2 metres of a pair of Elysian R Series speakers, the distance between the speakers should be the same as between you and the speakers. Otherwise sit the speakers between 1.5 and 2 metres apart, clear of rear walls and room corners. If the loudspeakers are placed too close to the walls the bass will increase but may be boomy and indistinct. If the loudspeakers are placed further away from the walls, the inward angle ("toe-in") may be increased by up to 30%. As personal taste and room acoustics play a large role, experiment with different configurations and play a wide range of music before finalising the position of the speakers.

The optimum listening position is in an area between the speakers broadly known as the "sweet spot". The more extreme the angle of toe-in the narrower the sweet spot. Wharfedale loudspeakers are designed to cover a wide sonic perspective so there should be no need for extreme settings. A mild angle inwards will cover a wide range of seating positions. The grilles are provided to protect the loudspeaker drive units from accidental damage. For critical listening, please remove the grilles.

Note: The spike feet will scratch floors. Be careful positioning the speaker on floorboards, tile or vinyl flooring. No rubber feet or pads are included to protect floors. We recommend using Quadraspire Floor Protectors or Atacama Spike Shoes to protect your floors.

Why Choose The Wharfedale Elysian 3R Speakers?

For listeners who want the scale and presence of a premium floor standing speaker without moving up to a larger cabinet, the Elysian 3R hits a particularly appealing sweet spot. It delivers powerful, controlled bass, excellent vocal clarity and a spacious, highly detailed presentation while remaining easier to accommodate in the average listening room. With flagship engineering, luxurious construction and a more contemporary finish, the Elysian 3R is an ideal choice for building a serious 2 channel system without going unnecessarily large.

Wharfedale Lintons against wall in room

About Wharfedale

Wharfedale Wireless Works was founded by Gilbert Briggs in 1932, soon after he built his very first loudspeaker in the cellar of his home in Ilkley, Yorkshire. This sleepy little market town was located in the valley of the river “Wharfe” – an area known to this day as ‘Wharfedale’. This unlikely location would ...
