About The Sony VPL‑GTZ380 4K Laser Projector

The Sony VPL‑GTZ380 is Sony’s flagship native 4K laser projector - boasting a staggering 10,000 lumens of brightness while delivering true 4096 × 2160 resolution through its triple SXRD panels and X1 Ultimate for projector processing. Engineered with a state‑of‑the‑art Z‑Phosphor laser engine (incorporating red and dual‑wavelength blue diodes), it achieves 100% coverage of the DCI‑P3 colour space at full brightness - no filtering tricks needed. Housed in a surprisingly compact 51 kg chassis, it brings cinema‑grade image quality - with deep blacks, infinite dynamic contrast, ultra‑sharp detail, and whisper‑quiet operation (33–39 dB) - into premium home theatres, galleries, simulation environments and large‑scale visualisation spaces.

Higher Brightness with a Bigger Screen: Enjoy the ultimate home cinema experience in any room. With an exceptional 10,000 lumens of brightness and 100% DCI-P3 wide colour gamut, you can be assured of spectacular brightness and stunning realism, even in well-lit spaces such as living rooms and media rooms.

10,000-Lumen Brightness with DCI-P3 Colour: The VPL-GTZ380 achieves a DCl-P3 wide colour gamut without sacrificing brightness with a unique 3-channel laser light source. The result is spectacular brightness and images with stunning realism even in well-lit spaces.

SXRD™ for Uncompromising Picture Quality: Our advanced SXRD panel technology offers rich, inky blacks and clear cinematic motion and image smoothness. High heat and light resistance also ensures spectacularly high and stable brightness.

X1™ Ultimate for Projector: Sony’s X1™ Ultimate for projector technology takes their acclaimed BRAVIA TV video processing technology and optimises it for projection. The incredible power of the video engine enables fast data processing, with real-time enhancement of each individual on-screen object. The result is true high dynamic range imagery, with texture, colour, contrast and realism never before available to home cinema.

Object-Based HDR Remaster: Individual objects on screen are analysed and the contrast adjusted to reproduce greater depth and texture, and more realistic pictures.

Dynamic HDR Enhancer: The advanced scene-by-scene HDR processing achieves striking highlights whilst maintaining deep black levels.

Object-Based Super Resolution: Hundreds of on-screen objects can be identified and their resolution is individually enhanced to give exceptional accuracy and detail.

Dual Database Processing: Two powerful image improvement databases work together to dynamically improve pixels in real-time for image clarity.

Digital Contrast Optimiser: Each scene is analysed and the image contrast optimised in advance to deliver inky blacks and superb shadow details.

Our Review

The Sony VPL‑GTZ380 isn’t just a projector - it’s an experience. Designed for those who won’t settle for anything less than extraordinary, this native 4K laser projector delivers jaw-dropping clarity and realism, with a true 4096 x 2160 resolution and an astonishing 10,000 lumens of brightness. Colours are gloriously rich thanks to Sony’s unique Z‑Phosphor laser light engine, which covers 100% of the DCI-P3 colour space at full brightness - no filters, no compromises. Whether you’re installing it in a premium home theatre, an art gallery or even a high-end simulation setup, the GTZ380 brings cinematic visuals to life with whisper-quiet operation and uncompromising image quality.

Under the hood, it’s packed with some serious tech muscle. Sony’s X1™ Ultimate for projector processing - adapted from their high-end BRAVIA TVs - works in real time to fine-tune each on-screen element, enhancing everything from HDR highlights to the finest textures. Combined with advanced SXRD panel technology, object-based super resolution, and digital contrast optimisation, the result is a picture with incredible depth, smooth motion and dynamic contrast that feels almost three-dimensional. And despite all that power, it’s surprisingly compact and elegant - a true flagship in every sense.

Calibration, Screen & Installation: We can install and calibrate the VPL‑GTZ380 anywhere in Australia to ISF standards (fees apply). With a projector at this standard we recommend Stewart Screens.
