About The Sony NW-A105 Walkman

The NW-A105 is Sony's entry into high resolution sound that fits in the palm of your hand, ready to take anywhere. And they call it a Walkman, which takes us back to the original Cassette Walkman released in 1979. Read on to see what makes the Sony NW-A105 Walkman special.

A Statement In Style, A Celebration Of Sound: Supported by Android, and featuring direct download and streaming via Wi-Fi, the eye-catching NW-A105 is all about enjoying your music, your way.

High-Resolution Audio Compatible: Enjoy the subtlest nuances of studio-quality sound in higher-than-CD quality with High-Resolution Audio. Passion for music unites every component from signal to speaker, so it feels like the artist is performing right in front of you.

High-Resolution Audio Wireless: Enjoy High-Resolution Audio quality music thanks to LDAC, Sony's premium wireless codec. With 3x the bitrate of standard Bluetooth technology, you can enjoy a superior listening experience for all your music.

Store Even More Music With The MicroSD Card Slot: Expand the already large memory of your NW-A105 with a microSD card - pop one in the slot to enjoy endless playlists and even the biggest music collections on the go.

MQA Files Played & Decoded: The NW-A105 can play and decode MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) audio files, so you can play even more lossless-quality music.

Up To 26 Hours' Battery Life: When fully charged you can enjoy up to 26 hours of music playback when playing MP3s at 128kbps. Perfect for the daily commute or just being out and about.

Vinyl Processor: Give the warmth and character of vinyl back to your digital tracks and get lost again in the richness of the melodies and dynamics of your favourite albums. Enjoy subtle reproduction of the low-frequency resonance, tone-arm resistance and surface noise to deliver an authentic listening experience.

NFC One-Touch & Bluetooth For Instant Connectivity: Near Field Communication (NFC) and Bluetooth wireless technology make connecting to your music fast and easy. Just touch your NFC-enabled device to your NW-A105 for a quick, seamless connection, then start streaming. No NFC? No problem. Connect via Bluetooth and you're ready to go. LDAC and aptX HD audio compatibility is available.

Rigid Aluminium Milled Frame For Improved Sound Quality: The premium aluminium milled frame provides superior rigidity for low impedance and clear, stable sound and solid bass.

Film Capacitor: High-quality film capacitors are used in the amplification stage to help the NW-A105 realise transparent, expansive highs and natural sound.

Fine Sound Resistor: The surface mounted Fine Sound Resistor ensures even, effective distribution of power to the circuit components, for consistent sound quality.

Optimised Circuit Board Layout: By dividing the Audio block and the Power/Digital block, the circuit board layout has been optimised to ensure sound quality is unaffected by digital noise.

Advanced Solder Containing Gold For Clearer Sound: The exceptional conductivity of gold ensures absolute minimum signal loss. For clearer sound and vocals, a premium, audio-grade lead-free solder with a small amount of gold connects the circuit of the NW-A105 to the battery.

USB Type-C Port: The NW-A105 features a USB Type-C port for easy connectivity with a range of devices.

DSEE HX: Audio upscaling is improved even further by Sony's DSEE HX processor which intelligently recognises instruments, voices and musical genres. By identifying these, and the relative energy of the audio, it can accurately rebuild audio lost during digital compression, for a full fidelity experience, even with compressed formats. The DSEE HX processor still works even when you're streaming music.

DSD Playback: Experience the natural sound and intense detail of DSD (Direct Stream Digital) audio formats up to 11.2MHz, thanks to the NW-A105's high-quality PCM conversion.

S-Master HX Delivers High-Resolution Audio In Maximum Quality: Enjoy all the subtleties in your music with the S-Master HX digital amplifier, which delivers High-Resolution Audio in maximum quality, with reduced distortion and noise.

Supported By Android: The NW-A105 is supported by Android, giving you easy access to a huge range of media apps and music services.

Wi-Fi Compatible For Direct Download & Streaming: Supported by Android and compatible with Wi-Fi, the NW-A105 offers you even more ways to listen to your music. Enjoy your favourite streaming and music apps right on your Walkman or connect to a PC to access your music collection.

Cassette Tape UI: As a playful nod to the iconic TPS-L2, the original Walkman® from 1979, the NW-A105 features a special Cassette Tape user interface and screensaver. The cassette tape visual that appears on your Walkman® display varies depending on the codec of the music you're listening to.

Compact, Handy Size: The NW-A105 Walkman offers high-quality sound in a compact device – so you can take your favourite music with you anywhere.

About Sony

In 1946, Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo K.K. (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation, The predecessor of Sony Group Corporation) started as a small company with capital of just 190,000 yen and approximately 20 employees. Founder Masaru Ibuka said the purpose of setting up the company was to "establish an ideal factory that stresses a spirit of freedom and open mindedness that will, through technology, contribute to Japanese culture. Symbolizing Sony's spirit of challenge to "do what has never been done before, the company has continued to release countless "Japan's first" and "world's first" products.

Sony has released many ground-breaking and significant products throughout its history which include Japan's first transistor radio in 1955 followed 2 years later by the first pocket sized portable transistor radio. The Cassette Walkman in 1979, the world's first direct-view portable transistor TV in 1960, followed by the first Trinitron TV in 1968. The first Beta VCR in 1975, Japan's first audio reel-to-reel tape recorder in 1950 and Sony's first cassette tape recorder in 1966. World's first compact disc player in 1982, the first Super Audio CD (SACD) player in 1999. First stereo headphones in 1964, the first in-ear headphones in 1982 and the world's first digital noise cancelling headphones in 2008. Sony's original PlayStation launched in Japan in 1994 and the latest PlayStation 5 was released worldwide in late 2020.

This very short list merely scratches the surface of what Sony has achieved over the last 75 years. This multi-national corporation continues to innovate and produce cutting edge products in almost every audio visual category for you to enjoy in your home.

Our Take On The Sony NW-A105 Walkman

This is the entry level model in Sony's high performance Walkman Digital Music Player collection. And we love it that Sony have called this a Walkman. For those with long enough memories, the original cassette Walkman (released in 1979) was one of the most liberating music players ever invented, allowing you to take your music with you wherever you went. You could run with it, skate with it (thank you Cliffy) and when you stopped for coffee with friends you could easily slip it in your pocket. It made Ghetto Blasters feel so old fashioned and anti-social. Now, all these years later Sony have the latest in digital music players which they still call a Walkman. Ah, the nostalgia. They also have a special Cassette Tape user interface and screensaver built in just to remind us where this all started. But this NW-A105 is a thoroughly modern take on that concept, able to play high resolution digital musical content with ease either through an old school 3.5mm wired headphone connection or via Bluetooth. Thankfully, you can still run with it, skate with it and when you catch up for coffee with friends it still slips easily into your pocket. Very nice indeed.
