Rega Planar 6 Turntable RS Edition

The Rega Planar 6 RS (Rega Special) Edition is constructed using a brand-new aluminium metal skin HPL laminate to create the stiffest plinth at Planar 6 level Rega have produced. This stunning dark brushed metallic plinth, edged in high gloss black creates a stunning platform. Like the standard Planar 6, the RS Edition includes a custom matched Neo MK2 PSU with each motor vibration circuit hand tuned to each individual motor. This low noise 24v motor drives the sub platter via Rega's Reference EBLT drive belt for ultimate accuracy in speed control. Finally, the legendary handmade RB880 tonearm (usually reserved for the Planar 8) is mounted and supplied with the award winning Nd9 moving magnet cartridge.

Looking at the Planar 6 RS and Planar 3 RS, at first glance, they both look pretty much the same, but don't be misled, there is a huge amount of engineering brilliance to be found in the Planar 6 RS which is not found in the Planar 3 RS.

Omitting unnecessary gimmicks allowed Rega to concentrate the manufacturing costs on the high quality parts necessary to reproduce music accurately. The Planar 6 is fitted with a hand assembled RB880 tonearm, precision main bearing and a low vibration, low noise 24v motor with a Neo electronic power supply hand matched to each individual motor to reduce vibration. The minimalist design of the Rega Planar 6 RS, plus the use of extremely high quality components, ensure that your very precious turntable should last for many years.

Ultra Lightweight Plinth

Rega has pioneered the use of lightweight, rigid plinths over many years. The unique, ultra-lightweight Tancast 8 foam core with a highly rigid phenolic resin skin (HPL) is the foundations of the standard Planar 6 and upper tier skeletal range. The Planar 6 RS Edition uses the same premium HPL combined with the stunning RS brushed metal aluminium skin with matching edging.

24V Motor AC Synchronus Motor

24V low noise synchronous low voltage precision motor and PCB assembly, fitted with a custom CNC twin drive machined aluminium pulley. Each motor is hand tuned to the Neo Mk2 PSU to minimise vibration and perfectly set speed.

NEO MK2 Turntable Power Supply

The Neo MK2 PSU is an advanced turntable power supply providing user controllable fine speed adjustment, an advanced anti-vibration motor circuit, and the convenience of electronic speed change. The Neo MK2 vastly reduces motor noise and improves speed stability and rotational speed accuracy.

RB880 Tonearm

Designed using the latest 3D CAD technology, the RB880 is the result of almost 40 years of tonearm design experience. This tonearm features an aluminium vertical bearing housing, a redesigned sleeve and vertical bearing shaft (both manufactured from stainless steel) to improve mounting stability and overall rigidity. The advanced tonearm tube is designed using intelligent redistribution of mass, ensuring this arm will exhibit fewer points of possible resonance. 

The extreme levels of stability achieved, coupled with almost friction free movement from the high precision hand matched bearing assemblies, guarantee to gather more information from your vinyl than ever before. You will also find a Rega made, low capacitance phono cables terminated with high specification phono plugs.

Double Brace Technology

The Planar 6 RS Editions plinth is strengthened further using Rega's double brace system. Mounted specifically where the increased rigidity is required (between the tonearm mounting and the main hub bearing) this forms a structurally sound “stressed beam” assembly. This rigid plinth design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonance, which will add unnatural distortions to the music. Equally, heavier mass can transfer more unwanted energy, such as motor or bearing noise directly into the rotating record. The use of braces instead of the complete skin allows double thickness phenolic resin in these key areas which directly addresses the issue of mass absorption and unwanted energy transmission.

Rega ND9 Reference Cartridge

Each Nd9 is meticulously hand-made by highly skilled technicians. The Nd9 uses the most advanced “fine line” nude diamond profile, bonded to a Boron rod cantilever for maximum detail retrieval. This profile has an exceptionally small radii Monocrystalline manmade diamond with the minor radius being just 3µm (microns) as viewed from the top and 30µm in the vertical when viewed from the front. This profile allows immediate adjustment to very small changes in the vinyl due to the small contact area of the diamond which results in exceptional levels of detail being retrieved. The design uses brand new generator geometry with perfect symmetry to achieve highly accurate channel balance.
