Pro-Ject Debut Pro Turntable with Pick It Pro Moving Magnet Cartridge

Pro-Ject, one of the world‘s leading hi-fi stereo companies, turns 35 years old this year and can look back on a long list of successes. Since 1991 they have been offering high-quality hi-fi products at a reasonable price for discerning music lovers. They started with turntables because they are the first choice for the most natural and affordable music reproduction. Their main focus is always on the materials and technology used. The shape and design of Pro-Ject’s turntables are always dictated by functionality. To this day, their designs have always been kept functional and clean, so the first Pro-Ject product was very simple but made from the highest quality materials: MDF, steel, aluminium, glass and carbon. Plastic was not used for reasons of sound, durability, and love of the environment. The result was a high-quality but simple-looking product with great sound at a low price. After the Debut Carbon Evo revolutionized the Debut series in 2020, the Debut Pro raises the bar even higher. Pro-Ject designed not only a new turntable, but also a completely new cartridge.

Pro-Ject Pick it Pro

Pro-Ject have always been looking for the best price/performance ratio, with perfect manufacturing quality and, of course, the distinction of being ‘Made in Europe’. For this reason, they decided to work with Ortofon to develop a unique range of cartridges. Thanks to the excellent manufacturing skills of Ortofon they were able to produce a very special cartridge: the Pick it Pro. Cartridges are electromechanical transducers, where mechanical energy is transformed into an electrical signal. The real difference in sound happens here. The turntable itself should be as neutral as possible. The colour and life of the music come from the cartridge. Pro-Ject, therefore, designed the new Pick it Pro to deliver a more lively and robust sound that convinces with its big dynamic range. The actual sound of the cartridge depends on how you combine the different components that make up the cartridge: stylus, cantilever, cantilever suspension, coil material, number of coil windings, generator, etc. You cannot judge the cartridge by looking at just one specific part. Experience and the art of fine-tuning make a cartridge unique and special. The perfect combination of components is the key to achieve the great, charismatic sound of the Pick it Pro. Intensive research, development and careful listening tests were all necessary to gain the sound Pro-Ject were looking for and the results speak for themselves.

8.6" Carbon-Aluminium Sandwich Tonearm

This one-piece tonearm has been designed with two very distinct material layers, an inner aluminium tube enveloped in an ultralight carbon-fibre sheath. The carbon-fibre layer lends the tonearm a high degree of rigidity, while the inner aluminium tube takes over the damping of the tonearm to ensure perfect tracking of the record groove.

VTA & Azimuth Adjustments

A completely flexible design, the robust nickel-plated aluminium tonearm allows you to adjust both the azimuth & the vertical tracking angle to your tastes by loosening two grub screws at its base. This gives you the height pliancy your tonearm needs for use with different turntable mats, cartridges & accessories for a sound that suits you.

Nickel-Plated Aluminium Components

The nickel-plated finish of the Debut Pro components have resulted in a hard, resistant surface that is not only beautiful to look at, but sustainable. Avoiding plastic materials that continue to age over time, the precision CNC milled nickel-plated elements of the Debut Pro are modern, elegant & extremely hard wearing.

It's Oh So Quiet: Inhibiting motor vibrations from reaching the stylus, the Debut Pro houses a motor suspension system that is responsible for the perfect decoupling of the motor. Thermoplastic elastomer suspends the motor above the plinth body, minimising audible wow & flutter during playback.

The Damped, Fly-Wheel Platter

The 300mm, die-cast aluminium platter is precision balanced. On the underside's inner-rim, a ring made of TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) dampens all vibrations, delivering smooth, enjoyable & uninterrupted playback. Adding extra mass to the outer rim of the platter also produces a stunning fly-wheel effect, creating the perfect transference of moving energy. The result is quiet operation with minimal wow & flutter.

Perfect Timing: The Debut Pro accommodates for all types of listeners. With a simple flick of the switch for everyday 33⅓ or 45 RPM listeners, accurate speed is guaranteed with the precision electronic speed control. And for the more rare listeners of 78 RPM shellac records, a simple change over to the supplied round belt and an Ortofon 2M 78 stylus is all that is needed.

Metal Feet

The Debut Pro stands on three height-adjustable damped aluminium feet to guarantee perfect stability.

Why Choose The Pro-Ject Debut Pro?

The Pro-Ject Debut Pro is the ultimate expression of Pro-Ject’s Debut turntable line and takes design and performance into new territory. With a mix of tried and true and brand new technology the Debut Pro impresses with its simple clean lines and cutting edge construction quality reflecting everything the Pro-Ject team has learned over the last 30 years. The new one-piece carbon-aluminium tonearm is a sonic & technical marvel wrapped up in a refined design that doesn’t shout technology but just quietly gets on the with the job at hand. This form follows function philosophy permeates every area of the Pro’s design and the listener is left with the lingering impression that all the parts coalesce into a perfected product so well poised it simply radiates with the effortlessness of excellence.
