The ND5 XS2 is a versatile player with innovative streaming technology, including high-res UPnP™ streaming, AirPlay, Chromecast, Bluetooth, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Qobuz, Roon compatibility, internet radio, and multi-room streaming. It also has digital and USB inputs. The player benefits from classic Naim engineering, with carefully selected parts, an oversized toroidal transformer, and decoupled PCB boards for natural and engaging sound quality.

This device streams high-quality audio files from different sources and supports various music formats. It has two digital inputs and two optical inputs that support optimal connection to external sources. It features a front-panel USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, and RC5 system integration. It's Roon ready, multi-room and Party Mode compatible, and has an iOS and Android Focal & Naim App.

The ND5 XS 2 streaming section uses the latest Naim network card with LVDS, decoding all HD audio formats at up to 32 bits/384 kHz or DSD128. The new streaming board allows the DAC clock to control the audio data flow, and the data is oversampled in a SHARC DSP with 40-bit accuracy before being fed to the PCM1791A Burr-Brown digital-to-analogue converter.

The Focal & Naim App, available on iOS and Android devices, provides simple yet comprehensive control over all network-connected Focal product or Naim components and your digital music collection. Naim users can adjust the volume, skip, pause and play tracks, scroll through album art, browse metadata, create playlists and store favourite radio stations.

Our Review

The Naim ND5 XS 2 is one of those streamers that quietly wins you over the longer you live with it, blending effortless usability with that unmistakable Naim musical drive. On the experience side, it’s refreshingly simple to use via the Focal & Naim App, whether you’re cueing up Qobuz, TIDAL, Spotify Connect, internet radio or diving into a Roon library, and it slips easily into multi-room or party mode when the mood strikes. Under the bonnet, though, it’s seriously capable, with Naim’s latest streaming platform decoding up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD128, clever clocking that keeps timing tight, SHARC DSP oversampling and a Burr-Brown DAC delivering a sound that’s natural, rhythmic and engaging rather than flashy. Add AirPlay, Chromecast, Bluetooth aptX, USB playback and a stack of digital inputs for external sources, all powered by classic Naim engineering like an oversized toroidal transformer and decoupled circuit boards, and the ND5 XS 2 feels like a thoroughly modern streamer that still puts musical enjoyment front and centre.
