Our Take
Exuding the restrained elegance all modern Marantz products possess, the Model 50 uses good old fashioned Class A/B (phew) amplification technology combined with their unique HDAM-SA3 discrete amplifier circuitry to achieve a purity of sound that you really should hear. The Model 50 puts out a solid 70 Watts into 8 Ohms and will drive 4 Ohms comfortably which means most speakers are going to partner well with it.
Marantz has chosen to make this an all analogue affair, no 'let's include the kitchen sink' built-in DAC here, which we think is a good thing. Do one thing, and do it right. If you need all that digital stuff then look no further than the matching Marantz CD 50n which includes the 'kitchen sink' and a few other digital niceties you may not have thought of.
