Focal Chora 826 Speakers

The Focal Chora 826 floorstanding speaker is the top of the Chora range and is proof positive that you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a whole lot of speaker. With a trickle-down aluminium/magnesium inverted-dome tweeter, proprietary Slatefiber midrange and two Slatefiber woofers in a substantial sized and beautifully finished cabinet, the Chora 826 is designed to be kind to your décor whilst offering generous, room filling sound.

Made in France at Focal's specialist manufacturing facilities, Chora is a new generation of high-quality yet affordable loudspeakers, featuring unique technology and design. It's amazing what you get for your money with this range topping model. The Focal Chora 826 is a 3-way floorstanding loudspeaker design that utilises a 25mm TNF aluminium/magnesium inverted-dome tweeter (from the Aria range), a dedicated 165mm slatefiber cone midrange driver, and two 165mm slatefiber cone woofers for smooth highs, balanced and precise midrange, and perfectly articulated bass. The Chora Series floorstanding loudspeaker offers the most faithful sound reproduction, whether you are listening to music or a movie soundtrack. The Chora 826 is a substantial speaker which works best in rooms measuring 30 square metres and up.

A Closer Look At The Chora 826

TNF Aluminium/Magnesium Tweeter: The Focal Chora 826 features a single 1" TNF inverted-dome tweeter made of aluminium and magnesium alloy. The inverted-dome technology allows optimal energy transfer and wide dispersion. The aluminium/magnesium makeup guarantees exception performance in terms of stiffness and damping, thus ensuring a subtle blend of softness and dynamics. Performance of the TNF tweeter is enhanced by its new Poron suspension material. Poron is a polyurethane micro-cellular foam which has a porous open-cell structure. This memory foam is very light which means that the suspension will not become damaged or compressed with time. It is an essential element of the TNF tweeter as the suspension allows the dome to move freely. Its uniform and constant physical properties ensure excellent stability and linearity, along with extreme accuracy and distortion-free sound. The result is a sound which is soft and precise and which offers improved harmonics richness and a more precise soundstage

Slatefiber Cone Technology: The Chora 826 uses Slatefiber cone technology in its midrange driver and woofers. Slatefiber technology, exclusive to Focal, involves the use of recycled, non-woven carbon fibres applied as a sandwich between two layers of thermoplastic polymer. In their quest for perfection, Focal engineers have opted to use non-woven carbon fibres, all pointing in the same direction to achieve even greater rigidity and better damping. Manufactured in the Focal workshops using an ultra-modern industrial tool, the "slate" effect of the cone provides better damping and rigidity, but also lightness - the three "essentials" of a good loudspeaker driver.

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The Focal Chora 826's speaker cabinet uses solid MDF construction, internal bracing, and a non-parallel inner wall structure to reduce internal resonance for less coloration. This bass reflex type cabinet uses an aerodynamic front port for greater efficiency and to reduce distortion of the bass.

Grilles: The Chora Series floorstanding loudspeaker comes with a detachable magnetic cloth grille that covers the woofers and midrange driver. The grille has to be aligned just right with the front of the cabinet to magnetically attach to the speaker. The tweeter features its own integrated, non-removable grille.

Binding Posts: The Focal Chora 826 is outfitted with a pair of binding post terminals that will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG which is very thick) spade connectors and banana plugs (single only). You'll need to remove two plastic caps from the binding post terminals to accommodate banana plugs.

Tilted Based with Rubber or Spike Feet: The Focal Chora 826 comes with a tilted base that provides proper time alignment for optimal soundstage imaging that is more focused on the listener. It also includes spike feet for carpeted floors; as well as rubber feet for hardwood, ceramic, laminate, and vinyl flooring. The base and feet have to be installed. Note: The plinth and feet should always be used for proper time alignment, optimum sound quality, and maximum stability.

Focal Chora In The News

"It would also be hard to complain about the sound of these speakers even if they carried twice the sticker price. We live in a wonderful time for high-performance audio, and it's only getting better all the time. I can give the 826 my enthusiastic endorsement for those looking to build a great-sounding and great-looking floorstanding stereo setup that's super forgiving in terms of placement." Home Theater Review

"I enjoyed my several weeks with the Focal Chora 826 speakers. I like the fact that this European audio gear is as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as it is to the ears. These speakers have some pretty slick technology in them, and it shows when you put the music on. You can build a great stereo system around the Chora 826s or pursue a killer home theatre based on all Focal Chora speakers. The build quality is so good, these could be the last speakers you'll ever buy. And all of this comes at a price that puts you in the Focal family.

The Focal Chora 826 speakers have a natural, open sound that presents the music with a wide dynamic range with an impressive soundstage. These speakers are detailed enough for the audiophile and dynamic enough for the cinephile. The fact that they look gorgeous too, is but the icing on the proverbial cake. The Focal Chora 826s are where style and performance meet." Home Theater Hi-Fi

"Made in France at the Focal workshops, the Chora 826 3-way floorstanding loudspeaker offers outstanding performance, quality design and affordability for everyone to step into the high-fidelity world. The sound is full and balanced thanks to the speaker drivers featuring the Slatefiber cone. This exclusive and unprecedented Focal technology provides balanced midranges, articulated bass and plenty of dynamics." Hi-Fi Audio Guru

"Drawing on its extensive expertise, from the manufacture of drive units to final assembly, Focal has developed an affordable floorstander able to sound great on demonstration and in the home. At the heart of the Chora 826 is a new 'Slatefiber' driver, for speed and bass extension, and the speaker has a sound that'll make you want to keep on listening, with both bass weight, treble clarity and sparkle. It's also easy to set up and position, will work with modest amplification, and sounds good in almost any room. However you look at it, this speaker offers a lot of performance for the money."
