Audio Technica AT33xMono/II Dual Moving Coil Monaural Cartridge with Nude Conical Diamond Stylus

The Audio Technica AT33xMono/II Moving Coil Cartridge is the entry into the AT33x mono range and comes with a Nude Conical Diamond Stylus mounted to a Duralumin Cantilever.

This cartridge delivers sound that is immersive and warm. A special generator coil is used for monaural vinyl grooves that have amplitude only in the horizontal direction. The coil is unaffected by noise components from the vertical direction, so you can enjoy sound with exceptional purity. The AT33xMono/II is equipped with a newly developed magnetic circuit dedicated to monaural MC. The shape of the front yoke is optimised to improve power generation, further accentuating the clarity of sound. This is the only model in the AT33x Series to use a samarium cobalt magnet and pure iron yoke, providing supple, stable, and richly textured playback.

Since the original AT34 cartridge in 1977, Audio Technica have been developing new models to meet changing needs. And now they have brought them together to form the all-new AT33x Series. Making full use of Audio Technica’s phono cartridge technology know-how (cultivated since AT’s founding in 1962), they have applied advanced processing while carefully refining the materials. This includes the first use of a zinc die-cast for the cartridge base for optimum structure.

This series is the first extensive overhaul of the line since 2014, featuring five models: AT33xMLB, AT33xMLD, and AT33xEN stereo cartridges, andAT33xMono/I and AT33xMono/II monaural cartridges.

In addition to the delicate, high-resolution sound that Audio Technica’s customers know and love, they have also pursued well-balanced sound quality over a wide bandwidth. The cartridges in this series provide a full, welcoming sound through dense mid and low frequency control. Audio Technica’s aim was to create a product with a truly unique character - one that adds warmth to the human voice.

Featuring masterful technology and wide bandwidth control, the newly reborn AT33x Series invites you to flood your listening space with a deep sea of sound.

Duralumin Cantilever

The AT33xMono/II features a Duralumin cantilever to which the nude Conical diamond stylus is attached.

Conical Stylus

The conical stylus is the simplest and most widely used stylus. Its spherical tip normally touches the centre of the record groove walls. A conical stylus works best for low- to moderately-priced turntables and audio setups. It is also ideal for mono (vinyl with one channel) and older 78 RPM records. However, its shape prevents it from making detailed contact with much of the record groove walls, resulting in less fidelity.

Bonded or Nude?

In a bonded (or jointed) stylus, a diamond tip is glued on a metal shank that is itself glued into the hole of the cantilever. While less expensive to manufacture, this construction may increase the mass of the overall tip and affect transient response compared with a nude stylus where the tip and shank are constructed from a single piece of diamond.

Nude styli, shaped from whole diamonds, are more costly than bonded styli. Their lower mass allows nude styli to track more accurately. Also, since Audio Technica’s nude styli are grain-oriented, with their longest-wearing faces touching the record surface, they last longer.

Why Choose The AT33xMono/II Dual Moving Coil Monaural Cartridge

The Audio Technica AT33xMono/II Moving Coil Cartridge brings a touch of old-school mono magic into the modern era, wrapping classic warmth and texture in beautifully refined engineering. As the entry point into the AT33x mono range, it features a Nude Conical Diamond Stylus mounted to a lightweight Duralumin Cantilever - an ideal pairing for smooth, engaging playback. Its specialised generator coil and newly developed magnetic circuit are designed specifically for monaural grooves, cutting out vertical noise and delivering sound with an inviting sense of purity and depth. Using a samarium cobalt magnet and pure iron yoke, this cartridge produces a supple, stable tonal balance that makes vocals and instruments feel effortlessly alive. The AT33xMono/II captures the essence of Audio Technica’s decades-long mastery of cartridge design, offering a lush, well-rounded sound that’s perfect for rediscovering vintage mono records with remarkable clarity and charm.
