About The Atacama NeXXus 1000 Essential Speaker Stands
Designed to get the best from your speakers, the UK designed & manufactured Atacama NeXXus 1000 Essential Speaker Stands offer brilliant sound and value.
Atacama – Over 30 Years’ Experience: Widely regarded as one of the leading speaker stand manufacturers, Atacama have over 30 years’ experience. As one of the most highly awarded brands ever, Atacama have design expertise that is second to none. Who better, then, than to provide the support for your speakers.
Essential Stand: The NeXXus 1000 has everything you need from a well-designed speaker stand. Twin columns ensure excellent rigidity and damping properties. This helps reduce distortion and keeps the bass tight and tuneful. Base spikes are provided for extra stability and isolation from the floor. Gel pads at the top provide cushioned damping for your speakers.
High Quality Finish: The base ‘shield’ is laser cut for stylish precision. Finished in satin black, these stylish stands are both unobtrusive and durable.
Wide-Ranging Support: Supplied in pairs, each individual stand is equipped with twin 50.8mm (2”) wide support tubes and a new 5mm thick laser cut “shield” design base plate along with a 130mm x 170mm top plate as standard. If this sized top plate is not a suitable match for the supported speakers, a choice of 4 alternative sized top plates packs can be purchased separately if required. Please enquire.
With double the mass loading capacity of the outgoing Nexus stand, the NeXXus 1000 can support speakers up to 15kg each which is a significant improvement over the previous generation 8.4kg capacity. The bigger base plate allows more substantial speakers to be supported safely and securely and the spike interface has also been updated with NeXXus featuring 8mm BZP spikes.
Please Note: The 130mm x 170mm top plate pack is always included with NeXXus speaker stands. If you have purchased one of the additional top plate packs, it is suggested that the unused top plates be attached to the underneath of the base plates via the tube fastening bolts. This will increase the low down mass of the stands and will avoid the original top plates being misplaced should they be needed at a later date.
Why Do You Need Speaker Stands?
That question is often quickly followed up with another: "Can't they just sit on the floor?" The truth is you can put speakers wherever you like but the location and positioning absolutely and significantly effects the performance. When bookshelf sized speakers are placed on the floor or against a wall their sonic output becomes 'connected' to the floor or walls. This results in sound that is muddy, boomy and lacking in clarity. Ideally speakers should be positioned at a height where the high frequency Tweeter is about level with your ears when you are sitting down listening. You should also experiment with bringing the speakers away from the wall if possible as midrange clarity benefits greatly. Speaker stands serve to elevate, support and isolate speakers from floors and walls. Sound is clearer and cleaner with much better imaging and a greater sense of realism.
How To Make Stands Even Better
Where appropriate - like here with the Atacama NeXXus speaker stands - the centre support tubes are hollow and can be 'filled' or mass-loaded to dampen vibrations, help minimise unwanted resonances and provide stability. You could fill them with lead shot or sand as some do. But eventually these may cause the stands to rust. Not good!
The best way to make your stands sound better and increase stability is to fill them with Atacama Atabites which is a high density zinc coated inert filler specifically designed for speaker stands (rather than shot guns or beaches). The NeXXus 1000 speaker stands have a maximum Atabite capacity of 28.27kg per pair, however, three 7kg tubs of Atacama Atabites should be sufficient for most applications.
Our Take
The NeXXus 1000 Essential speaker stand achieves all its goals. It is, first and foremost, a solidly constructed stand that will help your speakers sound their very best. It is also customisable with optional top plates available and there is also the highly recommended upgrade of a tub or two of Atacama Atabites to mass load the stands and reduce resonances. And finally, with their satin black finish and slim, elegant proportions they are exceptionally easy on the eye, which means they should slip into most interiors with the minimum of fuss - always a good thing!
