Our second biggest cinema at Audio Trends, is classically called "Cinema Two". After some playing around with another brand, we decided we wanted to up our game. So we have welcomed Ascendo into Cinema 2 and after our first demo, we are beyond happy with the results. But first, let us tell you a little bit about Ascendo.

Who Are Ascendo?

In a world filled with countless speaker brands refining old ideas, ASCENDO was founded to be radically different, never interested in following. Established in 1999 by music enthusiasts and technology innovators, ASCENDO evolved from its musical heritage to become a leading-edge technology company dedicated to redefining sound itself. In 2014, Geoffrey Heinzel joined Stefan Koepf as a founding member of ASCENDO Immersive Audio (AIA), leading the vision and execution of R&D, sales, and strategic initiatives.

At ASCENDO, sound is more than just an auditory sensation - it is an emotional experience. A whisper in a silent room, the subtle tension of a bow gliding across a violin string, the raw intensity of a cinematic explosion - each sound carries emotion, depth, and presence. Their speakers immerse you so completely that technology fades into the background, leaving only the pure essence of the moment.

ASCENDO are listeners, dreamers, and pioneers. While others compromise, they choose precision; where others market myths, we trust in science; and rather than settling for "good enough," we strive for perfection.

For our installation we have specified a 7.4.4 system with 3 x ASCENDO THE12 Passive for the front left, centre, right. We are using 4 x ASCENDO THE6 Passive as our side and back channels. We are currently using the existing Klipsch Pro-180RPC as the in-ceiling Dolby Atmos Speakers. They do a great job for the price. Later on we will replace them with ASCENDO THE8 Pro Passive LED Wedge.

As some of the staff love bass (a little too much) we decided to use 4 x ASCENDO THE18 Passive Vented Subs in each corner of the room. This is our first system in the shop with more than 2 Subwoofers. And to make sure the bass is tight, punchy and shakes your insides, each sub is getting 1500 Watts, which we think might just be enough to get the air moving in a suitable solid manner.

We now have some of the best bass we’ve ever encountered in a modestly sized home theatre system. With the new amplification in place we are feeding the front left, centre and right speakers with 200 Watts each, btw ASCENDO THE12 Passives, have a 99db efficiency, so we are easily exceeding reference levels with over 3db of headroom at our 4.6 metre seating distance.

All up, this has brought a level of performance never before imagined to this medium sized cinema room and nearly all of it is invisible. The AV Preamp/Processor of choice is the acclaimed Marantz AV20, running Dirac EQ.

We have been getting our teeth into Dirac and love the options it brings for tuning your system. Dirac art does amazing calibrations with not too much effort. One of our in-house Techs Dan, can't wait to upgrade his AV Processor to do Dirac. Good luck Dan.
