Sony HT-A5000 Dolby Atmos Soundbar

Enjoy virtual surround sound for nearly everything you watch with the Sony HT-A5000 450W Virtual 5.1.2 Channel Soundbar. Its ability to decode multichannel audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X adds a height dimension to your compatible media. On-board processing technologies along with driver directionality augment stereo sources to virtual surround sound as well to provide a more immersive experience for all your media.

The soundbar has Bluetooth connectivity built-in, allowing wireless pairing with your compatible smart device for wireless audio streaming. Its wired connections include HDMI, optical, and a USB port for media playback from suitable drives. The HDMI output is eARC- and ARC-compatible, so you can hear audio from your smart TV's built-in apps like Netflix and YouTube.

Experience Sound From Above: Thanks to Sony's virtual surround technology, the soundbar can position sound in vertical space so you can experience 3D audio without the need for in-ceiling speakers. As well as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, Vertical Surround Engine technology lends a more realistic, multi-dimensional sound to other formats too.

Surround Made Simple: Using only the front speakers, Sony's digital sound field processing technology virtually reproduces the surround sound field, with audio coming at you from both sides. You can enjoy rich, cinematic surround sound without cluttering your living space.

Sophisticated Speaker Technology: Sit back and enjoy room-filling acoustics with two up-firing drivers for overhead sound, two beam tweeters, and five front speakers for wider surround, plus two woofers for deep bass.

Up-firing drivers reflect sound off the ceiling for immersive overhead audio. Combined with Vertical Surround Engine technology, these give you an even more atmospheric overhead sound experience.

Beam tweeters bounce sound off the side walls and expand surround sound to give you an immersive experience that goes beyond the size of your TV. They combine with S-Force PRO Front Surround technology for even wider surround sound.

Dual woofers deliver high sound pressure for clear, deep bass. This has been achieved by expanding the area of the diaphragm and the size of the woofer (X-Balanced Speaker Unit).

Front speakers provide high quality sound with less distortion and high vocal clarity from an X-Balanced Speaker Unit.

X-Balanced Speaker Unit: The up-firing drivers, woofers, and front speaker feature an X-Balanced Speaker Unit. The unique rectangular shape of these speakers maximizes the diaphragm area for more punchy bass. It also reduces driver excursion while maintaining sound pressure, resulting in less distortion and greater vocal clarity.

Movies & Games Feel Real: With 8K UHD, 4K UHD/120, and Dolby Vision pass-through support, your favourite movies and games are even more thrilling.

Enjoy An Immersive Gaming And Movie Experience: Enjoy immersive gaming and movie watching with optimized picture settings by Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode when connecting BRAVIA XR TVs and PlayStation 5 (via a future firmware update).

Real Time Restoration Of All Your Compressed Files: Using Edge-AI (Artificial Intelligence), DSEE Extreme (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) technology upscales compressed digital music files in real time. Dynamically recognizing instrumentation, musical genres, and individual elements of each song, such as vocals or interludes, it restores the high-range sound lost in compression for a richer, more complete listening experience.

Immerse Yourself In Supreme Music Quality: Enjoy music the way the artists truly intended with High-Resolution Audio for crystal-clear precision. Or discover a new way of listening with 360 Reality Audio for a truly immersive live concert or studio session experience.

Sound Field Optimization: No need to precisely place speakers. The HT-A5000 has built-in microphones that do it all for you, intelligently measuring the position of each speaker, vertically and horizontally, and optimizing sound to your room. The HT-A5000 lets you enjoy Sound Field Optimization with or without optional speakers. Activate via the initial settings or the home menu.

Omnidirectional Block Design: The HT-A5000 has been designed under the Omnidirectional Block concept. Its sophisticated rounded edges represent a single solid block providing wide-spreading sound. The combination of rich material textures emphasizes an affinity with any living room environment.

Enjoy Music With The Whole Family: It's never been easier to listen to your favorite tracks. The HT-A5000 supports audio streaming via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect, and Apple AirPlay 2.

  • Bluetooth connection lets you stream music wirelessly from your smartphone, tablet or laptop with Bluetooth technology.
  • Wi-Fi streaming lets you connect to the internet and stream music from devices on your home network.
  • Spotify Connect enables you to play Spotify directly through the soundbar using the Spotify Connect app on your device as a remote.
  • Chromecast built-in allows you to stream music, online radio, and podcasts from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop to your audio device with just a tap of the Cast button.
  • Apple AirPlay 2 allows you to share music and more from your favourite Apple devices to the soundbar with just a tap.

Voice Control: The HT-A5000 is compatible with Google Assistant enabled devices with Chromecast built-in and Amazon Alexa enabled devices. Just add the HT-A5000 soundbar to your speaker group using the Google Home app to start playing music, change the volume, or many other functions using just your voice.

Set Up In Seconds: The HT-A5000 is almost ready to go straight out of the box. Simply plug it in, connect to your TV using the HDMI eARC connection, and power it on, or connect wirelessly to your TV. With USB, optical, and analogue audio inputs as well as HDMI in and out (eARC) and S-Centre Out for compatible BRAVIA TV models, you have all the connections you need to enjoy a breathtaking surround sound experience.

Pair With Sony TVs: Paired with compatible BRAVIA TVs, the HT-A5000 brings you an immersive audio-visual experience with Sony's best picture and sound quality.

Even More Immersion With BRAVIA Acoustic Centre Sync: When connected to a compatible Sony BRAVIA TV with Acoustic Centre Sync using the supplied cable, both the soundbar and the TV become the centre speaker in your home cinema system. This enables sound to precisely match what's on the screen for a truly immersive experience. With Acoustic Centre Sync, you'll hear dialogue from exactly where the character is standing in the scene. Action and sound are precisely aligned so your viewing becomes much more immersive.

Effortless Control With BRAVIA XR TVs: With an integrated user interface (UI), soundbar settings automatically appear on the BRAVIA Quick Setting menu for easy control of sound modes, sound field, and volume.

Expandable Design For Fuller, Richer Sound: Two optional subwoofer choices (SA-SW3 and SA-SW5) as well as optional rear speakers (SA-RS3S and SA-RS5) are designed to help you enhance the immersion of your content. The wireless subwoofer and rear speaker accessories take out any guesswork when connecting, as they automatically pair to the HT-A5000 once they are powered on.

About Sony

In 1946, Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo K.K. (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation, The predecessor of Sony Group Corporation) started as a small company with capital of just 190,000 yen and approximately 20 employees. Founder Masaru Ibuka said the purpose of setting up the company was to establish an ideal factory that stresses a spirit of freedom and open mindedness that will, through technology, contribute to Japanese culture. Symbolizing Sony's spirit of challenge to do what has never been done before, the company has continued to release countless "Japan's first" and "world's first" products.

Sony has released many ground-breaking and significant products throughout its history which include Japan's first transistor radio in 1955 followed 2 years later by the first pocket sized portable transistor radio. The Cassette Walkman in 1979, the world's first direct-view portable transistor TV in 1960, followed by the first Trinitron TV in 1968. The first Beta VCR in 1975, Japan's first audio reel-to-reel tape recorder in 1950 and Sony's first cassette tape recorder in 1966. World's first compact disc player in 1982, the first Super Audio CD (SACD) player in 1999. First stereo headphones in 1964, the first in-ear headphones in 1982 and the world's first digital noise cancelling headphones in 2008. Sony's original PlayStation launched in Japan in 1994 and the latest PlayStation 5 was released worldwide in late 2020.

This very short list merely scratches the surface of what Sony has achieved over the last 75 years. This multi-national corporation continues to innovate and produce cutting edge products in almost every audio visual category for you to enjoy in your home.

Our Take On The Sony HT-A5000 Dolby Atmos Soundbar

At the top end of the soundbar market, there are two schools of thought. The first is that costlier models warrant additional speakers for enhanced bass and surround performance. The second is that a single, high-quality soundbar should be able to competently deliver excellent treble clarity, bass and a room-filling sound on its own – with extra boxes available (though not necessary) to suit the taste, homes and pockets of the  buyer.

The Sony HT-A5000 falls firmly into the latter camp. This 5.1.2 soundbar packs two up-firing speakers, two beam tweeters, three front-facing drivers and a built-in dual subwoofer into a single chassis.

And it's an approach that appeals. After all, isn't the point of a soundbar that it delivers cinematic audio without the need for lots of speakers? So, if you want one box to rule them all and produce all the sound you might ever need from your TV, the Sony HT-A5000 definitely needs to be on your list.
