Acoustic Energy Corinium Floorstanding Speakers with Carbon Fibre Drivers
The flagship Acoustic Energy Corinium speakers are a clear statement of intent: musically engaging, dynamically confident and designed to feel right at home in real listening spaces. Sitting combine the best qualities of a stand-mount and a traditional floorstander, Corinium blends the agility and imaging finesse of the former with the scale and room-filling authority of the latter. The result is a speaker that sounds open, expressive and rhythmically assured, with an effortless sense of timing that draws you into the music rather than simply presenting it.
At the heart of Corinium is a carefully considered driver layout that mirrors how we naturally experience live sound. The mid and high frequencies sit at ear height, delivering clarity, focus and a lifelike presence, while a dedicated lower bass section couples cleanly to the room to provide weight and scale. This integrated, time-aligned approach avoids the compromises often associated with subwoofer integration, creating a single, coherent acoustic source that feels natural and convincingly “live” from the listening position.
Technologically, Corinium represents a major step forward for Acoustic Energy. Second-generation carbon fibre mid and bass drivers offer an ideal balance of stiffness, low mass and damping, refined further to reduce breakup and coloration. The all-new tweeter takes a different path, using an advanced Tetoron dome material combined with a shallow waveguide to deliver fast, delicate high frequencies with excellent dispersion and minimal cabinet interaction. The overall presentation is detailed and refined, yet never clinical, maintaining a sense of flow and musicality across the spectrum.
Bass performance is equally considered, favouring speed, control and tonal accuracy over sheer excess. The twin carbon fibre woofers handle the heavy lifting, while a low-tuned port subtly underpins the lowest registers rather than dominating them. This approach delivers tight, tuneful bass with convincing slam and scale, preserving the natural relationship between fundamentals and harmonics and ensuring the speaker plays with authority without sounding overblown.
All of this technology is housed in a striking curved cabinet designed to be as acoustically inert as it is visually elegant. Thick Resonance Suppression Composite panels, an aluminium front baffle and a precisely angled stance work together to reduce unwanted resonance and optimise time alignment. With high sensitivity and an easy-to-drive nature for quality amplifiers, Corinium is as practical as it is aspirational. Named after Acoustic Energy’s historic hometown of Cirencester, it stands as one of the brand’s most accomplished loudspeakers to date - confident, musical and built for long-term listening pleasure.
Advanced Tetoron Tweeter
Building on the success of the carbon fibre dome on the 500 series, the engineers identified the need to use an even lighter dome for the Corinium to maximise the transient response of the system. So, they searched for a material lighter than carbon fibre and subsequently sourced a new soft dome material call Tetoron. This newly developed tweeter design has now proven to lower coloration, increase delicate high-speed transients and reproduce the very finest detail and refinement.
Carbon Fibre Mid and Bass Drivers
At the heart of the Corinium is the midrange drive unit. Covering 5 octaves it’s the key element which produces most of the sound from the loudspeaker system. The new carbon fibre cone and surround helps provide specific tonal qualities they were targeting for this speaker… offering the most natural sound and realistic musical performance. The extra width of the Corinium cabinet allowed them to house a slightly larger bass driver. Acoustic Energy went back to basics to develop a brand-new bass alignment that combines weight, speed and slam to produce a natural, realistic sound from what’s still a fairly compact loudspeaker system. In conjunction, they developed a brand new 5.5” (140mm) bass driver to produce a big, powerful, controlled and natural bass sound.
Quality 3-Way Crossover
Optimised for best transient performance, the 3-way crossover blends the power output of each transducer to provide a rich, tonally balanced sound. High quality components are used throughout including air core inductors, metalized polypropylene film capacitors and metal oxide resistors. The crossover is connected to the drive units using audiophile grade WireWorld internal wiring which features a patented arrangement of conductors to give the best possible musical detail and dynamic expression.
Beautifully Curved, Exquisitely Finished, Inert Cabinet Design
All these ground-breaking new drive unit and crossover developments are housed in a beautifully curved, exquisitely finished inert enclosure. The hybrid ‘Resonance Suppression Composite’ (RSC) cabinets have a minimum thickness of 22mm and vary up to 50mm for optimal performance. The 4° tilt improves the time alignment of sound to listener, whilst the 6 mm ultra-rigid aluminium front baffle firmly houses the drivers and isolates any cabinet resonances from the listening environment.
Our Review
The Acoustic Energy Corinium speakers are a confident high-end offering, blending real-world usability with a genuinely engaging, high-end sound. They have that rare ability to disappear into the room while still delivering scale and presence, combining the agility and imaging of a stand-mount with the easy authority of a floorstander. From the listening seat, everything feels coherent and natural, helped by a thoughtfully time-aligned 3-way design with mid and treble at ear height and bass that couples cleanly to the room. The second-generation carbon fibre mid and bass drivers bring speed, control and a wonderfully realistic tonal balance, while the new Tetoron tweeter adds a light, refined top end that’s detailed without ever sounding edgy. Bass is tight and tuneful rather than showy, underpinning the music with confidence, and it all comes wrapped in a beautifully curved, inert cabinet that looks as good as it sounds. The overall effect is open, expressive and rhythmically assured – a speaker that draws you into long listening sessions and quietly reminds you why Acoustic Energy has such a strong reputation for musical, room-friendly design.
