About The Denon PerL Pro True Wireless Earbuds
Immerse yourself in a customized musical experience with the PerL Pro True-Wireless Earbuds from Denon. The earbuds feature a hand-tuned ultra-low-noise 10mm dynamic driver constructed with three layers of titanium and use Masimo Adaptive Acoustic Technology to create a unique hearing profile perfectly tuned to your ears, while the Immersion Mode lets you set just the right bass level for your listening pleasure. Use the active noise cancelling technology to tune out the outside world, or engage Social Mode for more situational awareness. Confidently take calls with clear voice quality provided by four microphones per side, including two bone conduction mics. Use the Denon PerL app to create your profile and fully customize your listening experience. Plus, with eight hours of battery life and three additional charges from the charging case, you can keep the music going all day. The earbuds' wireless Bluetooth 5.3 technology supports the aptX Classic, aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive, AAC, and SBC codecs.
Masimo Adaptive Acoustic Technology (AAT): Normal hearing varies from person to person and can impact your listening experience. Masimo AAT automatically measures your hearing and creates a profile perfectly tuned to you. It works by playing a range of tones into your ears and measuring very faint sounds called otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) which are produced by the inner ear as a by-product of amplifying sound. Measuring OAEs determines which frequencies your ears are more or less sensitive to, allowing the system to build a customized sonic signature to match your individual hearing profile and deliver the music you love in stunning detail.
Denon Signature Sound: The 10mm triple-layer titanium dynamic driver is hand-tuned to deliver vivid and spacious sound quality with a 20 Hz to 40 kHz frequency response. Choose quiet with active noise cancelation or hear your surroundings in Social Mode. Adjust the level of bass based on the style of music or your personal preference using the Immersion Mode. Use the Denon PerL app to create your own unique profile, customize touch controls, select noise cancelling or Social Mode, and more.
Qualcomm aptX Lossless Technology: Hear your music in stunning lossless quality. Many Bluetooth techniques for compressing and decompressing audio can destroy parts of the data and reduce the quality of the output. Snapdragon Sound with Qualcomm aptX Lossless technology retains all of the original content, bit for bit, resulting in music identical to the original recording. It's designed to scale up to deliver lossless audio when users are listening to lossless streaming source content, and it can scale back the bit rate in busy RF environments to ensure no dropouts or audio glitches occur. In addition, Multipoint functionality allows you to connect with two devices at the same time.
Dirac Virtuo: Dirac Virtuo for Bluetooth headphones turns any standard stereo content into an immersive sound experience with enhanced sound quality. Spatialized stereo makes it seem as though sound comes from a pair of premium speakers in front of the listener without requiring specific spatial audio content. The filter design removes unintended resonances to produce a crisp and clean sound canvas.
Ready for the World: The PerL Pro earbuds will run for up to 8 hours on a single charge. The included charging case will provide three additional charges for up to 32 hours of operating time on the go. The case supports Qi-compatible wireless charging and fully charges in one hour. A 5-minute quick charge of the earbuds will provide a full hour of playback time. Take them along on your commute or workout knowing the IPX4 rating protects them from sweat and rain. The included 5 eartip options and 2 wings ensure the earbuds stay comfortably in place. Four fully customizable touch inputs on each earbud let you control play/pause, skip track, change volume, and more.
Out Take
The flagship Denon PerL Pro wireless earbuds offer a number of upgrades over the standard PerL earbuds. That includes longer battery life, higher-grade 10mm drivers with rigid titanium diaphragms, and Bluetooth 5.3 with lossless, CD-quality streaming. But the headline feature remains the same: sound that's personalized to the listener. These earbuds also layer on Dirac's spatial audio processing to extend the soundstage outside your head. That's optional, but you will find that that it makes the sound even more engaging — while maintaining key musical detail.
To start personalising the sound just pair these noise-cancelling earbuds to your phone via Bluetooth, then downloaded the Denon Headphones mobile app — free for Apple® and Android™. The app unlocks the "magic" of the Masimo Adaptive Acoustic Technology (AAT), which measures your hearing and serves up a unique tuning optimized for your ears. The AAT processing adds life to the even-keeled tuning out of the box. There should be more body and volume to the mids, relaxed detail in the highs, and authoritative bass thump. It will dial up the vivaciousness while simultaneously dialling in on accuracy.
Using a quick tone test, the AAT system determines how well you hear a range of frequencies in both ears. The tones cause the hair cells in your inner ear to vibrate and sends sounds back to the earbuds. These sounds are called otoacoustic emissions and are practically inaudible — but the PerL Pro earbuds have a series of powerful built-in mics that can pick them up. Since the system relies on these sounds, you don't have to manually provide any feedback about what you're hearing. It will automatically sense if you have any hearing weaknesses or quirks.
You can control music, adjust volume, take phone calls and more by touch. Active noise cancelling circuitry helps knock out external distractions while you listen to your music or podcasts. Tap the left earbud to toggle off noise cancellation and activate "social" mode, Denon's transparency feature. It turns off noise cancellation and uses the built-in mics to amplify external sounds, keeping you aware of your surroundings. You can also adjust these features and customize the controls in the app.
Denon includes one set of malleable foam tips and four sizes of silicone ear tips to help with fit and comfort. You'll notice the overall earbud design is bigger than most, to make room for the drivers and extra circuitry. But the weight is well distributed and the piece that actually goes into your ear is only a tad larger than average. There are two sizes of optional support wings that follow the shape of your ear to keep the earbuds stable and secure. Denon doesn't expect you to jam them into your ears, either. They kind of rest inside your ears and don't fit as deep as most in-ear headphones. In fact, the app will even tell you if you're pushing the earbuds too far in. The first step of the AAT process is to test the earbud fit, since having a tight seal is so crucial to both noise cancellation and sound quality. You may have to cycle through a few different ear tip sizes and support wing combos before making a proper seal. Once you do though, it will noticeably dial in your hearing measurements — and most importantly — the sonic detail and bass impact.
