About The Denon AVR-X1800H 8K Home Theatre Receiver

Enjoy incredible 8K video and 3D audio from the AVR-X1800H. It easily fills small to medium-size rooms with brilliant audio from a 7.2 or 5.2.2 set up with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. And with HEOS® Built-in, you can wirelessly stream music and share with every HEOS-enabled speaker around your home.

Dolby Atmos

Feel every dimension in Dolby Atmos. Upgrade your home theatre with a 5.1.2-speaker setup to unleash a fully immersive 3D audio experience from Dolby Atmos content. Dolby Surround upmixer engages all speakers to create 3D audio sensations from legacy content. Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology creates the sensation of overhead sound even without a 5.1.2 system. You can also enjoy Dolby Atmos music tracks available from Apple Music, Amazon HD, and TIDAL and a compatible streaming device.

DTS:X: DTS:X immersive audio content places sound where it would naturally occur in space, creating lifelike, multi- dimensional audio. DTS Neural:X upmixer offers improved immersion and heightened realism for legacy content. DTS Virtual:X provides immersive audio without height channels, creating virtual height effects in a 7.1, 5.1, or 2.1 speaker setup.

HDMI Connectivity with ARC/eARC: Supports the latest technology on all HDMI inputs and output. ARC (Audio Return Channel) or eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) makes playing TV audio through your AV receiver simple, with just a single HDMI connection. eARC provides HD and 3D audio transmission such as Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD Master Audio, and Dolby Atmos while ARC is limited to conventional 5.1ch audio formats or PCM.

8K/HDCP 2.3: Enjoy pristine 8K picture quality on your 8K TV or projector. Supports both 8K pass-through and 8K upscaling of 4K content. Supports HDCP 2.3, the latest copy protection standard, for peace of mind when streaming copy-protected content.

Brilliant colour from HDR 10+: Supports HDR (High Dynamic Range), HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma), as well as Dynamic HDR and HDR10+ pass-through. HLG offers HDR technology over broadcast content. Both Dynamic HDR and HDR10+ use dynamic metadata to optimize shadows and highlights as screens change.

Dolby Vision

Dolby Vision is a stunning HDR imaging technology that brings extraordinary colour, contrast, and brightness to the screen. Enjoy Dolby Vision content from a compatible source device and TV.

Next Generation Gaming: Supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Quick Frame Transport (QFT), and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for smooth, lag- free gaming experience when connected with the compatible gaming devices.

HEOS® Built-In

With HEOS Built-in, your AV receiver can stream music wirelessly across compatible HEOS components from a variety of free and premium streaming services. Consumers can also enjoy their favourite music in any room of the home wirelessly. Play the same song in every room or select a different song for each connected room via a variety of streaming sources. Add Denon Home speakers to more rooms and control it all with the HEOS app.

AirPlay 2 & Apple Siri Voice Control: Use AirPlay 2 to stream Apple music wirelessly to the AV receiver, or group with other AirPlay compatible speakers to fill your home with music.

Works with Amazon Alexa: Control your AV receiver hands-free with Amazon Alexa and your voice. Adjust the volume, skip to the next track, switch inputs for your different media players, and more - "Just Ask." Download the free HEOS Home Entertainment Skill to enable Amazon Alexa voice commands. Requires Alexa app and Amazon Echo, Dot, or equivalent. Availability of features varies by region.

Works with Hey Google: Google Home or other devices with Google Assistant built-in can control content across your listening environment. Ask your Google Assistant to control volume, play, pause, skip tracks and more.

High-Resolution Audio Support: Enjoy superb audio fidelity with your favourite high-resolution audio tracks. The supported formats are ALAC, FLAC and WAV at up to 192kHz/24 bit. It is also compatible with 2.8/5.6- MHz DSD files. Play HD audio tracks from a USB drive or other connected drives over a network or from Amazon Music HD with subscription. Conventional MP3 and WMA files are also supported.

Bluetooth Audio Transmitter: Pair your Bluetooth headphones with your AV receiver to continue listening to your favourite music, movies, or TV programs at night. You can also play audio from both speakers and Bluetooth headphones simultaneously. If you have a family member or a friend who is hearing impaired, we recommend this setup. You can connect one pair of headphones at a time.

Multi-Source, Multi-Room: By connecting a pair of speakers in a second room to the AV receiver, it's possible to enjoy 5.1-channel surround sound in the main room and a separate source or music stream in the second room, such as den or patio. You can also play the same audio in both so that everyone in your home can enjoy and cheer your favourite team on Sunday evening or listen to the same song in both rooms. The AV receiver supports 2-source, 2-zone audio.

Denon Setup Assistant: Award-winning guide Denon Setup Assistant supplies simple, clear instructions to get started. Just connect your AV receiver to your TV and follow the instructions on the TV screen to connect your speakers, perform speaker measurements, and connect source devices. For additional convenience, the AV receiver renames HDMI inputs automatically when connected or you can rename manually at your convenience.

Audyssey Suite of Room-Correction Technology: Denon AV receivers use the Audyssey suite of EQ software for simple, accurate setup and calibration. With the supplied Audyssey measuring microphone, Audyssey measures all the speakers in your home theatre, and tunes the AV receiver to provide the smoothest, most optimal overall listening experience for your room. This AV receiver supports Audyssey MultEQ XT room-correction technology. The other supported Audyssey features are Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume.

Audyssey MultEQ Editor App: You can go even further with the optional Audyssey MultEQ Editor app, going "under the hood" to view and adjust settings for detailed tuning - allowing you to customize the sound more precisely to the specific problems in your room and tailor the sound to your personal preferences. With this comprehensive app, you can harness the power of Audyssey MultEQ to take total control of the way your home cinema sounds. The app is available for purchase in iOS and Google Play stores.

Denon AVR Remote App: This iOS or Android control app allows you to control your AV receiver, such as changing inputs, sound modes, volume, store and retrieve Quick Selects, show AV receiver (AVR) status, input and output signal information, change optional settings, and so on. Once HEOS music is selected, the AVR remote app automatically switches to the HEOS app for seamless operation between two apps.

Our Review

If you're like us, and you love experiencing movies and video games in surround sound, then check out Denon's AVR-X1800H. This modestly priced receiver has three 4K/120 HDMI inputs for making the most of cutting-edge video sources. And it's got special processing onboard for smooth, lag-free gaming. The AVR-X1800H has built-in amplification for seven speakers. Use all the channels in a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos® or DTS:X® home theatre system — or go with a conventional 5.1 setup and repurpose the extra two channels for music in another zone.

The AVR-X1800H uses a high-current, discrete power amplifier for each of its seven channels. So, while 80 watts per channel may not sound like gobs of power on paper, this receiver has plenty of horsepower to drive most small- to medium-sized speakers with ease. Also, the 'X1800H isn't as tall as Denon's larger, more powerful models, making it a solid choice if you're tight on shelf or cabinet space. Denon has equipped the AVR-X1800H with the latest video technology. Three of its six HDMI inputs support crisp 4K/120 video content — perfect for high-quality sources like a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player, an Apple TV, or your next-gen gaming system. (The other three inputs support 4K/60 video content.)

The AVR-X1800H isn't just great for watching movies — it's terrific with music, too. Stream tunes from your phone or tablet via Bluetooth or Apple AirPlay 2. Play your collection of digital music files over your Wi-Fi network. Or use the built-in phono input for your turntable. You can even play high-resolution tracks from a USB drive. It will also show up in your player list if you're using Roon (subscription required). HEOS Built-in technology lets you access all of your music — from your personal library, internet radio, and popular streaming services like Spotify and TIDAL — through the 'X1800H. You can easily make this receiver part of a wireless multi-room audio system as well. Stream music to HEOS wireless speakers and components in different rooms, and control each room's sound independently with the free HEOS app. The app lets you control playback, browse music sources, and select which rooms you want to use. Play the same music throughout your home or listen to something different in each room. All in all you get a comprehensive array of features and, as always, that great Denon sound quality you've come to expect.
