About The Denon DL-110 Moving Coil Cartridge
The Denon DL-110 phono cartridge was designed to enable more people to enjoy the exquisite sound quality of moving coil (MC) cartridges.
Developed using Denon's state of the art MC cartridge manufacturing know-how, the Denon DL-110 is a moving coil cartridge capable of producing a high output of 1.6 mV which is equivalent to the output of Moving Magnet (MM) phono cartridges. The Denon DL-110 phono cartridge can thus be directly connected the MM phono input of your amplifier or receiver without the need for a step-up transformer, head amplifier or pre-preamp.
The DL110 phono cartridge uses a special elliptical stylus with a rectangular cross section of 0.1 x 0.2 mm. It reaches deep into the record groove to extract detail while bypassing groove wall beaten and shorn by age, misuse and misalignment. You'll probably be surprised by how quiet your LPs sound.
As with all phono cartridges, proper setup is very important with the Denon DL-110 phono cartridge. Take the time to get it right and you'll be rewarded with its naturally sweet tonal balance, ambience, quick transient response, and exquisite articulation. If you've been wondering why many have been captivated by moving coils, the Denon DL-110 will offer you many positive reasons why.
Denon DL-110 Moving Coil Cartridge Reviews
"The Denon DL-110 is a much-loved High Output Moving Coil cartridge and for good reason. Its well-integrated, slightly lush sound offers charm and refinement that many audiophiles will appreciate." phonocartridgereviews.co.uk
"The DL-110 produced an excellent balance of sound, particularly well-suited to acoustic jazz. It also made more than a fair stab at perspective, managing to keep pace with rhythm and time signatures." Hi-Fi World
"Best diamond stylus in its price range. Under a microscope, it looks like a 100% nude, square-shank diamond with a very fine cut similar to cartridges costing twice the price. I love it." Jerry Raskin, The Needle Doctor
"The Denon DL 110 has a way of getting into the grooves and extracting the information contained therein with total authority. When playing well-used vinyl there is hardly a better performer than the Denon DL 110. It will play vintage vinyl with aplomb, where other, more expensive phono cartridges just give up. Due to its diamond shape, surface noise is all but non-existent. Several albums I thought had surface noise; when played using the Denon DL 110, that noise was gone." Audiogon
Our Take
Want to try a moving coil cartridge on your turntable but only have an amp or preamp with a moving magnet input? The Denon DL-110 could be the perfect candidate. Unlike its legendary stablemate, the DL-103 which is a low output moving coil which puts out a measly 0.3 mV, the DL-110 is a high output moving coil with a much more friendly 1.6 mV output. This means it will play nicely with a moving magnet input on an amplifier or phono preamp so you don't have to spend any extra over the cost of the cartridge. Compatibility wise, we would recommend the Rega Planar 3 or Planar 6 turntables and the Rega Fono MM MK5 phono preamp (if required). Alternatively, we would also recommend the ProJect X1 or X2 turntables and the ProJect Tube Box S2 phono preamp (if required). Any of these combinations will give you great sound at a very fair price.
