About The Barco Balder 16:9 HDR Projector
The Barco Balder brings beauty and life to the most refined home cinema and media rooms. Manufactured to perfection in Barco's European design centres, Belgium and Norway, Balder is forged from the finest components such as aluminium and glass. Balder features cutting edge Ultra HD and HDR 10 compatible electronics as well as state of the art optical design and single laser engine derived from their flagship models.
Professional-Grade Optics: By basing Balder's optical engine on its top grade architecture, custom designed aspherical glass elements and enhanced low dispersion glass lenses, image quality is in a class of its own. Topping that, Balder's chassis and core are built from aluminium and magnesium, which offer exceptional robustness, resulting in the best picture quality ever shown at this level.
State-Of-The-Art Electronics: Barco "Pulse" electronics are built on a superior FPGA platform, featuring a dual core processor on the industry's only 20 nm SoC with 96 transceiver lanes delivering 3.3 Tbps of serial bandwidth. Thanks to the unique single step processing technology (SSPTM), Pulse electronics are designed to process 4K UHD, HDMI 2.0a, HDCP 2.2 and HDR10 signals with extremely low latency. This provides exceptional gaming and movie viewing experiences.
The optical engine utilizes the very latest 0.9-inch DMD DLP chipset, delivering 3,840 x 2,160 pixels on screen. Balder also features motorised lenses and a function to swap between 16:9 and cinemascope. Featuring Barco's unique RealColor processing, Balder enables simple and accurate calibration to any desired white point or greyscale.
Laser Light Source: Outstanding image quality also requires an exceptional light source which is why Barco have packed Balder with an exceptional laser engine. Alongside significantly improved image uniformity, lasers last longer than traditional projector lamps, are not as fragile and offer near instant on/off.
Liquid Cooling: Balder has departed from a pure fan based cooling system, opting instead for a liquid cooling PID regulation system. This combined with Barco's simulation grade warp engine allows Balder to operate at any angle (free rotation), offering new possibilities when it comes to architectural integration.
Warp to Centre: Barco has a unique way to handle aspect ratio's within their 16:9 projectors. This feature is called warp to centre and the change between aspect ratios is instant.
Prospector: Barco's web interface, Prospector, provides quick and simple configuration and calibration of Pulse projectors, along with monitoring and diagnostic tools. Pulse Prospector is available in all the Pulse based products.
Illumination: Balder uses a unique blue laser phosphor light engine developed by Barco. Blue lasers are selected based on their high density and power efficiency.
Warp & Blend: Warping is the process of digitally manipulating an image to compensate for alignment distortions. Blending allows multiple projectors to be seamlessly combined to create unique digital canvas solutions.
RealColor: RealColor is Barco's proprietary colour management system, enabling simple and accurate calibration to your desired colour gamut or white point.
Latency: Low latency is desirable to achieve that smoother gameplay and user experience we all want, without input lag. If latency is >30ms, your gaming experience will be compromised, Barco's latency is <20ms (including all image processing).
