Product Description

Sonos have done it again! The slim and stylish 9 speaker Sonos PLAYBAR is the perfect complement to every HD TV delivering the sort of sound you need to enjoy movies, games and even music. One easy-to-use player that is a real standout.

The Sonos PLAYBAR is no ordinary sound bar. Yes, it connects to your HDTV to play movies, TV shows and sports programs with vibrant, room-filling sound. But, unlike other sound bars which have just one function, PLAYBAR offers wireless access to a world full of music — Spotify, plus hundreds of Internet radio stations and more, just like all Sonos speakers. Control the PLAYBAR using your TV's remote control or by using the free Sonos app for smartphones and tablets to stream digital music.

Amazing Technology

The 9-speaker Sonos PLAYBAR features three tweeters and six midrange speakers for a fantastic cinematic experience and all from one extremely sexy component. Great if you don't want to fill your room up with lots of speakers. The 9 built-in Class D amplifiers and processing can handle both Dolby Digital and lossless audio formats. And to finish off what is a very hot item, the PLAYBAR's automatic equalisation self-adjusts to the program material to provide rich, seamless sound.

Trueplay Tuning (for Apple iOS): The layout of a room, and where a speaker is placed, can have a significant impact on the sound that you hear. Trueplay, an auto-tune app within the Sonos App,  uses the microphone in your Apple iOS 8.0+ device to measure how sound reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in a room, and then fine tunes the Sonos PlayBar speaker to make sure it sounds great no matter where you've placed it. The Sonos PlayBar speaker already sounds fantastic, but Trueplay brings you even closer to how music should sound. Completing Trueplay tuning for a room takes approximately 3 minutes from start to finish.

Note: Trueplay is currently not compatible with Android.

Equalization (EQ): During the PlayBar setup process you will be guided through its audio calibration process. If desired, you can change the sound settings (bass, treble or loudness) for the Sonos PlayBar. Bass boosts lower frequencies, treble boosts higher frequencies, while loudness boosts both bass and treble to improve the sound at low volume.

Music Anywhere, Anytime

The Sonos system works seamlessly with a host of Internet-based digital music services, including Internet radio, Spotify, Songl etc. Sonos gives you access to unlimited music; such as your iTunes library, your favourite music services, and thousands of Internet radio stations, shows, and podcasts.

  • Internet Radio: Sonos includes TuneIn, an Internet Radio Service, that provides immediate access to 100,000 Internet radio stations and broadcast programs. You can easily find radio stations from all over the world broadcasting music, news, and variety programming, including archived shows and podcasts.
  • Music Library: Sonos supports playback of music from any computer or network-attached storage (NAS) device on your home network where you have shared music folders. Sonos can play music stored on up to 16 PCs, Macs or NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices on your home network, supporting the most popular audio formats. Sonos indexes your music folders so you can view your music collection by categories (such as artists, albums, composers, genres, or tracks). Sonos supports the following audio file formats - MP3 (compressed), WMA (compressed), AAC (MPEG4), iTunes, Ogg Vorbis, Audible (format 4), Apple Lossless, FLAC (lossless), WAV (uncompressed), and AIFF (uncompressed).
  • iTunes Music: The Sonos wireless music system supports the playback of music and playlists managed with your iTunes account (playlists are limited to 40,000 tracks). Sonos can access your iTunes music files from your network computer or directly from your Apple iPod iOS device (4.0+) running the Sonos app.

Sonos Controller App: Sonos allows you to control its audio setup, playback functions, and search features through the Sonos Controller app (from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store) for Apple iOS (8.0+) and Android (OS 2.3+) devices, or the Sonos Controller software for Windows PC (XP SP3 and higher) or Mac computer (OS X 10.6 and higher). You'll have access to thousands of pre-loaded internet radio stations, a variety of online music services, your iTunes music, and your network music library; all from one control app on your smartphone/tablet or laptop/computer.

Expand Your Sonos System: Already into Sonos? Did you know you can have up to 32 Sonos music players in your system, and each one can play an independent selection of individual tracks or playlists. Bach in the bedroom; Beach Boys by the pool, even AC/DC in the lounge. It is all possible. You may even just want to enjoy a single playlist of songs or Internet radio throughout your entire home.

3.0 Home Theatre: Connect PLAYBAR to your TV with an included optical digital cable for clean, clear sound from TV shows and movies.

3.1 Home Theatre: Pair a Sonos SUB with PLAYBAR to add bass impact to your home theater system. The SUB pairs wirelessly with the PLAYBAR with the touch of a button, making it simple to enjoy full-range sound.

5.1 Home Theatre: Add two Sonos PLAY 3 speakers to the PLAYBAR and SUB for a complete, wraparound home theatre experience. Like the SUB, the PLAY 3 speakers wireless connect to the PLAYBAR so you don't have to run speaker wire around your room.

Our Take

We've sold a lot of Sonos Playbars. Now it is a soundbar and not a full-blown home theatre system, but it is on another planet when compared with both TV sound and the majority of similarly priced soundbars. It is the benchmark by which others are compared. It is super-easy to install and the 9 speakers do a great job. The Sonos app is very easy to use and you can add more Sonos speakers to either the PlayBar for better surround - SUB should be the first upgrade - or in other rooms. We could go on but just look at the long list of features and those above are by no means an exhaustive list but represent what we really think you need to know.
