About REL Longbow

LongBow is REL's proprietary, 24-bit lossless wireless transmission system which connects quickly and simply to all REL Series S Subwoofers.

Serie S takes the concept of audiophile quality components as furniture-grade companion to the sophisticated home to a new level. Because not everyone lives in the same sized house with identical speakers, REL offer three different levels of accomplishment (S2, S3 and S5) that increase in quality, scale and refinement.

REL Longbow

Series S combines a higher performance level than REL have ever set out to deliver within their mid-level range, with ease of use and freedom from conventional restraint.

Freedom - LongBow Wireless Connectivity: Introducing REL’s LongBow, the easy-to-use, ultra high quality wireless system that frees your system from placement limitations imposed by conventional cables. LongBow permits very fast, uncompressed bass to be sent wirelessly within the same room approximately 15 metres (somewhat dependent upon room clutter). Conventional wireless systems operate by hugely compressing the sound, shipping the compressed digital bitstream through the air and then expanding it back to its “original” form. The results are a noticeable lag in speed (engineers refer to this delay as latency) and an uninvolving quality which often suffers from thinness. LongBow upgrades the digital pipeline from 16 bit to 24 bit, then ships over un-compressed 48kHz signals. Eliminating the compression/expansion chokepoint and using audiophile grade A/D encoders results in fast (typically about 80 percent faster than traditional Bluetooth or Wi-Fi systems) rich, natural bass.

Please Note: The LongBow is designed for the older S2, S3 & S5 models. If you need wireless transmission for the S/510, S/812, Carbon Special, 212/SX or G1 MkII then you need the AirShip wireless transmitter.

True Performance - Fast, Uncompressed Bass: REL's engineers didn’t stop at creating the industry’s best-sounding wireless delivery system. Because it is a genuine REL ground-up design, the  engineering team developed LongBow with both high level AND .1 channel simultaneous delivery so that REL Theatre Reference performance can be maintained even when using the wireless delivery system. This approach produces the rich, natural, warm bass REL theater systems are known for, along with the devastating punch of great .1 dynamics. Wirelessly. Shifting back and forth between music and film sound requires NO switching of inputs, altering subwoofer settings or the like.

Give It Five Seconds - The Simple Toggle: Perfect Pair™. Most people find fiddling with computer pairing frustrating, so REL's designers tasked their engineers with reducing pairing to just two simple toggle switches. Total set-up time? About 10 seconds to enjoy high performance bass, freed from the restrictions of cables.

About REL

REL was founded in 1990 in Bridge End, Wales, UK by Richard E Lord and for the last 30 plus years REL has been developing better and better subwoofers designed to bring the ultimate bass response to your stereo or home theatre system, regardless of budget.

But lots of companies make subwoofers, so what makes REL special? Well for starters, they ONLY make subwoofers, whereas almost every other company make a range of products, including subwoofers. You can guess which company pays subwoofer development the most attention. Also most REL subwoofers are designed for music systems and have two very unique features. The first is the High Level Input which brings the signal in from the amplifier’s speaker outputs so the signal your subwoofer is seeing is the same as the one your speakers are seeing. This means the subwoofer has a much better chance of sounding like an extension of your speakers.

The second unique feature is the lightning fast filters which REL have developed which allow REL subwoofers to be as quick as your speakers. To illustrate, a typical loudspeaker has a response time of 4ms (milliseconds), whereas most subwoofers have a response time between 37ms & 80ms. No wonder most subwoofers sound as slow as a wet week. By contrast the response times of a REL Subwoofer vary between 9ms for the Serie T, 7ms for the Serie S and a loudspeaker-equalling 4ms for the Reference series. On top of that, REL have some of the lightest most rigid cones found on any sub and some of the most powerful amplifiers, all housed in uniquely braced cabinets that ensure no cabinet resonances of any kind and no turbulence or noise inside the cabinet. Last, but certainly not least, REL subwoofers are some of the most harmoniously designed and downright good looking subwoofers on the planet, ensuring it’s not just the bass response that brings a smile to your face.
