About The Rega Fono MC MK4 Phono Preamplifier

Size isn't everything! The Rega Fono MC MK5 is a high quality Phono Preamp that works an absolute treat with Rega Moving Coil cartridges yet has the flexibility to play nicely with almost any MC cartridge out there.

The Fono MC is an exceptionally high quality MC phono stage designed to maximise the potential of any MC cartridge. Although specifically designed to complement the latest Rega range of  moving coils you will find full adjustability for loading is available via dip switches conveniently located on the rear panel with two different gain settings making the Fono MC compatible with most low output MC cartridges. The Fono MC has been designed to be effective, easy to use, and above all, to reproduce music.

Rega Fono MC MK4 Phono Preamplifier

Technically Advanced: The new Fono MC circuit resulted from the design work carried out on the Aria phono amplifier and uses the Linear Systems low noise LSK389 FET in an all discrete input stage where low noise and linearity are vitally important to get the best from an MC cartridge. Because of the high input impedance of FETs, the loading effects of the amplifier circuit are minuscule and do not effect the performance of the cartridge.

A MUSE operational amplifier is used in the RIAA equalization amplifier. Polypropylene capacitors have been used in the signal path and in the RIAA equalization circuits. There is selectable input loading for both resistance and capacitance along with two different gain settings located on the back panel making the Fono MC compatible with most low output MC cartridges.

Aesthetically Gifted: The aesthetic design of the Fono MC is as important as the quality of its electrical capabilities, so it benefits from the same aluminium case as the Rega NEO power supply and the Fono MM phono amplifier, giving it a design which offers a familiar feel and moreover brings it in line with its illustrious bigger brothers.

Simple To Use: Your turntable lead (& earth wire if required) simply connects to the left & right RCA inputs on the back panel of the Fono MC & then an RCA interconnect lead connects to a line level input on your amplifier (we recommend the Van den Hul The Name interconnect). The Fono MC is designed to amplify the signal from a moving coil cartridge to a level which can feed into a 200mV line level analogue input on a standard hi-fi amplifier i.e. a CD, Tuner or AUX input.

Note: If you have an integrated amplifier with a built in phono stage, DO NOT connect the Fono MC to this input.

About Rega

Roy Gandy started making Turntables in the early 1970's when vinyl was at its peak of popularity! He became a part time retailer and found he had to spend a ridiculous amount of time repairing new turntables before his conscience and common sense would allow him to sell them to others! Out of frustration and a strong feeling he could do better, the Planar turntable was born. By 1973 he was making turntables in the evening. In 1975 the Planar 2 was developed and quickly took its place in the market as the finest budget turntable. In June 1977 HI-FI News and Record Review announced the Planar 3 saying 'The complete unit is worth a look'! Rega's usual blaze of non-publicity.

Engineering has always been the beating heart of Rega Research, a company obsessed with specialist materials, tolerances and accuracy. From day one every Rega product has been designed to achieve the best musical performance and deliver a lifetime of musical enjoyment at an affordable price.

To this day, Rega remains a dedicated British manufacturer and now employs over 140 people selling to 46 different countries. Rega manufacture a vast range of hi-fi products including amplifiers, phono stages, cartridges, CD players, loudspeakers, and a wide range of accessories, to name but a few. Rega designs and assembles every product by hand in their custom-built 38,000 square foot facility in the South East of England, using a team of highly trained and highly skilled technicians who take great pride in the work they do.
