Like us you will be super-impressed with the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit turntable. It is not only right up there when it comes to value, but embodies all the warm and smooth tones that playing vinyl is all about. And judging by our sales, customer feedback and how many people around the world have watched our video tutorial, then that is obviously true. This description is for the latest design and you may wonder why Pro-Ject would even play-around with a successful model. Well there is no need to be concerned as the engineers at Pro-Ject have kept all the major elements just adding a couple of upgrades to make it sound even better. In addition to these engineering elements, the Esprit version comes supplied with an upgraded cartridge - the Ortofon 2M Red - and the highly regarded Pro-Ject acryl platter. Frankly, the extra money is well worth it if performance is key.
History: The first Debut turntable, introduced in the late 1990s, was a revolution for the hi-fi industry. For the first time after the arrival of Compact Disc and the assumed demise of vinyl records, an analogue product re-emerged in the “mass market” – something all music lovers could afford.
Main Features: Fully manual operation coupled with the best materials and components available ensures the best possible value. The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit is possibly the World's Best value turntable/record player under $1000. The Rega RP-1 Performance Pack is its only real competitor at this price. It is already a Best Seller and for good reason - the sound!
The new Debut Carbon series has been designed to set new standards in this category for the coming decade – perfectly timed as analogue today is again a respected source, while the demand for good turntables is growing again!
Engineering: The Debut Carbon Esprit Turntable from Pro-Ject is a killer deal! Pro-Ject has really created something special with this turntable! It features: a low-tolerance, chrome plated, stainless-steel axle that runs on a polished bearing in a brass housing, decoupled from the motor to reduce vibrations; a great tonearm with a bearing that comprises inverted hardened stainless-steel points and sapphire thrust-pads; a silicone damped arm lift; and a high quality leads from the headshell to the RCA connectors. The headshell and arm tube are formed from a single carbon work piece, rotation allows adjustment of azimuth with a fixed headshell. The platter is a significant upgrade on the standard steel platter with felt mat. The highly regarded "acryl" platter is included. This inert material basically eliminates any resonance or "ringing" common to steel platters and is around $160 of extra value.
In addition to the Carbon Fibre Tonearm with its increased rigidity that delivers lower reverberation, there is a new DC motor with built-in power supply. The heavier platter that delivers improved wow and flutter and the improved Sorbothane motor suspension that delivers less vibration and minimises 'rumble' have both been carried over to this latest model. Pro-Ject claim that the suspension makes for an interference-free drive mechanism.
Set Up & Connection Is Easy: You may think that setting up a quality Turntable is a challenge for a new comer. However, when unpacked it is virtually ready-to-go! The Debut Carbon Esprit also includes a pre-installed Ortofon 2M Red Moving Magnet (MM) cartridge - one of the worlds most popular 'audiophile' cartridges and thus making this turntable a complete package. It is simple to set-up and will get you spinning LPs within minutes. See our Video Tutorial (link above) which has helped 1000's world-wide set up their Debut Carbon. This version of the Debut Carbon Turntable simply connects to your stereo system via a set of RCA interconnects, but these must be connected to a standard phono input. If you have an Amplifier or Receiver that has been manufactured after the year 2000 it probably doesn't have a proper Phono input. If that is the case, then you will need a Phono Preamplifier.
Note: You cannot connect this Turntable to an AUX or Line Input. It needs to be connected into an Input clearly marked Phono. If you only have an AUX or Line Input then you will need a Phono Preamplifier and probably a pair of Interconnects. We have included some popular recommendations in the Accessories section - see below.

The first Debut turntable, introduced in the late 1990s, was a revolution for the hi-fi industry. For the first time after the arrival of Compact Disc and the assumed demise of vinyl records, an analogue product re-emerged in the “mass market” – something all music lovers could afford. Here's a couple of comments from the hi-fi press.
"While the Carbon does not offer the level of refinement generated by top-notch vinyl rigs, it’s a fantastic place to start an analogue crush, as it does a superb job with fundamentals. Moreover, when used in concert with modest gear, it provides musicality that MP3 players and inexpensive CD players cannot match. Yes, this ‘table is all you need to get hooked on analog. Hence, we are thrilled to give the Carbon an Exceptional Value Award for 2012. A snap to set up, it offers fantastic performance and an easy upgrade path." AnalogAholic. Read Story
Absolute Sound, the magazine with a long history reviewing high-end audio has also put the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon under the microscope. This is a nice surprise and will explain further why we can't get enough stock to keep up with demand! Read Story
Keep It Clean Mate! To get the best performance, your records need to be clean. Arguably the best device available - especially for the price - is the German designed and made - yes you read correctly - is the Knosti Record Cleaning Machine. This simple and clever design is easy to use and will remove most dust and grime from the grooves.
A solid turntable at a competitive price-point and perfectly executed by Pro-Ject. We think it's one of the best values out there under a grand for enjoying the warm, natural sound of vinyl and judging by our customers' overwhelmingly positive reviews, they feel the same way we do. Weighty acrylic platter on a stable base. Well-balanced tone arm. Smooth belt-driven motor. Absolutely excellent sound so highly recommended. Dustcover and Ortofon 2M Red cartridge included. This also means that when the stylus needs replacement you can choose to upgrade even further to the 2M Blue stylus! Note, this turntable will not work with the Pro-Ject Speed Box. Speed change is operated manually, or electronically via the Speed Box SE.
