The P65-RX is part of the CI Pro Series from Paradigm. This is more than just a fancy title, but each speaker features innovative technology and advanced specifications including weatherproofing to such a high standard that they can be used in marine applications or outdoors near your pool.

Overview

The Paradigm P65-RX in wall speaker is packed with the same quality innovations and smart technology as the rest of the CI Pro range. The CI PRO series is hand crafted in Canada and takes performance to the next level with patented technology, step-up components, and hallmark Paradigm sound quality, plus a new bezel-free micro-perf grille with an incredibly discreet aesthetic. The P65-RX is perfect for outdoor and Marine use so need to worry about salty moisture or harsh UV rays with this quality in-ceiling speaker.

With new innovations, comes the tricky explanations and lots of tech talk which can be quite baffling to us simple audio lovers. But nevertheless here is some the clever things that are part of the Pro Series of speakers designed to give you the best listening experience possible.

Tweeter Innovation: X-PAL tweeter with exclusive Perforated Phase-Aligning (PPA) Tweeter Lens that protects the delicate pure-aluminium tweeter dome and acts as the Phase Plug, blocking out-of-phase frequencies for smoother, extended high frequencies with incredible detail and higher output. Paradigm’s tweeter designs are cooled by the original ultra-stable Ferrofluid, made exclusively by Ferrotec. Ferrofluid is a colloidal suspension of magnetic Nano particles in a liquid carrier with low volatility and high thermal stability.

Quality Design And Materials: Superior Mineral-Filled Co-Polymer Polypropylene Bass/Midrange Cones Oversized computer-optimised ferrite magnets and high-power motor structures deliver detailed midrange performance with clean, extended bass. That’s a lot of big words but basically it makes the sound out of the speaker fantastic. Even movie dialogue is incredibly clean and clear. Premium-grade components include high-power rated resistors, capacitors and heavy gauge wire inductors.

ART: Paradigm’s patented Active Ridge Technology (ART) surrounds, made in-house and over-moulded directly onto each cone, achieve greater excursion for a 3dB gain in distortion-free output (50% greater) compared to drivers with standard surrounds. Crafted from audiophile-grade injection-moulded thermoplastic elastomer, ART surrounds are more durable and reliable, for a lifetime of superior sound.

Super-strong die-cast aluminium baskets: Feature integrated heat sinks for higher power handling, for better bass, better dynamics, and less power compression.

Reduced Edge Diffraction (RED) Technology: RED Technology (patent pending) is a die-cast aluminium tweeter housing that significantly reduces negative effects of diffraction while improving critical midrange frequencies. The irregular edges and off-centre placement break up standing waves typically found around the woofer cone and tweeter housing of traditional designs. Additionally, the aluminium structure dissipates unwanted heat which increases power handling and allows a lower crossover frequency, improving sound and reducing distortion.

Rear Component Shielding: Protects internal parts from debris. The translucent polycarbonate material creates an installation that will not warp. Flat covers also make it easy to lie speakers down during the installation process without tipping.

Research - Building Projects

If you are reading this material as part of research of a new building product, then you may be surprised to know that on average in the USA, 65% of all new homes built have multi-room sound in some description specified as a standard feature. Although we don't have the exact figures for Australia, we're fairly confident that it will be about the same or even more. Australian's love new technology.

But sadly, the big home builders have looked at this as a simply a profit opportunity and unless you organise otherwise will install what are known as "contractor series" speakers. If you guessed that these were bottom of the pile quality, you'd be right! A wrong decision here means you are stuck with bad sound and until the day you move or have them replaced.

Our Take

For those of us that have not only a need for in-wall speakers, but a desire for something that has been designed to sound as good as possible, Paradigm is a company you can trust. Looking at the improvements they've made in the different lines over the years, shows clearly that they are thinking about the specific use of the speaker in the home environment or as in the case of the P65-RX models - the outdoors. You'll enjoy superior performance at a relatively modest price with any of the Paradigm CI Pro Series which claim their heritage from the audiophile custom collection. The P65-RX's are suitable as for almost any application - especially where the area is above average size or a 'fuller' sound is desired - but primarily you would use these outdoors or on a boat where moisture would destroy any 'normal' speaker. Pure-aluminium domes, mineral-filled polypropylene cones. The die-cast or glass-reinforced polymer chassis and full-perimeter brackets are amongst the most rigid designs on the market so you can be assured this product will cut the mustard.
