About The NAD C427 Tuner

The new NAD C 427 Tuner builds on the strengths of previous NAD Tuners by offering a quality of reception that is as good as or better than the quality of todays broadcasts. NAD have carried forward their highly sensitive RF Front End for cleaner reception in fringe areas.

The new NAD C427 Tuner builds on the strengths of previous NAD Tuners by offering a quality of reception that is as good as or better than the quality of todays broadcasts. NAD have carried forward their highly sensitive RF Front End for cleaner reception in fringe areas, plus noise is extremely low across the audio spectrum. In line with NADs environmental policy, they have completely re-designed the Power Supply for improved efficiency and ultra-low power consumption during standby while still allowing all remote activation and control interfaces.

The rear panel IR Input, and RS-232 port, allows the C 427 to be easily integrated with sophisticated system controllers used in custom installation. NAD also have one of the most intuitive user interfaces in the market utilising a 24-position rotary encoder knob to more quickly tune stations or select preset stations. All functions are available via the included IR Remote Control.

Loads of Presets: With 40 presets available you can store all your favourite radio stations. These presets can be any combination of AM and FM stations: 30 presets for FM and 10 for AM, or 25 for FM and 15 for AM, for instance. To avoid having to scroll through 40 presets, the C 427 skips any that have not been programmed (left empty), so you can quickly access all your favourite stations.

Simply Convenient: Instead of littering the front panel with buttons and features that are hardly ever used, the C 427 concentrates on convenience in daily operation. The RDS limits itself to the RDS PS and RT function, both of which enhance ease of operation. The RDS PS (Program Service) will automatically indicate the name of the radio station on the display, ie, Gold 104.3, so you will always know exactly what station you are listening to. With its four-line VFL graphic display, you always see all the available information. Preset information is stored in the C 427s non-volatile memory, which means it will remember all of its preset information even if the unit has been unplugged for a prolonged amount of time.

Performance Driven: Apart from its ease-of-use, the NAD C 427 also offers features to get the maximum out of the airwaves. The MOS-FET RF Front End design together with high quality components and careful PCB layout guarantees excellent sensitivity with low intermodulation distortion to provide quiet and musically satisfying performance. Whether you are looking for excellent performance, ease of use or the convenience of RDS, the C 427 offers all these with the value to high performance ratio for which NAD is so renowned.

Reception: Auto Search automatically stops at the next strong radio signal it comes across and optimises tuning. Weaker radio stations can be tuned in manually. Stations that are quiet in Mono but noisy in Stereo can benefit from the "Blend" feature that narrows stereo separation and improves noise - see info on Antennas. FM Mute eliminates inter-station tuning noise and only allows strong and clear stations to emerge from the silent background. Although AM can never reach the quality of any FM transmission, the C 427s AM section retains excellent clarity together with lowest possible background noise - but when the signal is very strong.

Antennas: The NAD C427 comes with an indoor AM loop antenna and an indoor FM wire antenna. These are pretty useless and may work if you have strong reception. So, you are advised to check this before purchase - other radios and previous experience may be a guide but it isn't a guarantee. We have had vast experience with quality radio since the arrival of FM in 1974/5 and there are a lot of anomalies that don't seem to make sense to most consumers. Basically for best results you need to connect the tuner to an external antenna. For FM this is usually, but not necessarily, the same antenna that your TV connects to. If in doubt, contact your local Antenna specialist. For AM reception, we recommend you contact PK Antennas who are specialist AM antenna manufacturer's.

Our Take On The C427

Listening to music or simply keeping up with the news, there are many reasons why a good AM/FM tuner can be a key addition to your home stereo system. The NAD C427 tuner makes sure your radio stations come through clearly - depending on antenna - by using a low-distortion design and includes features such as "FM Mute," which eliminates inter-station tuning noises.

With the C427's 40 available presets and simple controls, you can store and scroll through your favourite radio stations with ease. The tuner's screen displays Radio Data System information, so you can see what station, artist, and song you're listening to (available with select FM stations). You can control it with the supplied remote, or integrate it with your existing external controller or universal remote. The NAD C 427 works well with NAD's highly-regarded integrated amplifiers.
