About The Marantz NA8005 Music Streamer

The Marantz NA8005 Music Streamer and DAC is an enticing new device. Top shelf features include high-grade digital to analogue conversion, network connection for high resolution audio streaming, on board Internet radio access, and more.

The NA8005 offers lots of ways to enjoy digital tunes from various sources. Connect your computer to the asynchronous USB input and hear your digital library sound newly refreshed as the NA8005's audiophile digital-to-analogue converter unlocks new detail and depth for a more dynamic, involving listening experience. You can also connect this player to your home network via Ethernet cable to stream music from computers, music servers, and online services like Spotify and Tidal. Apple AirPlay offers easy wireless streaming from your iPhone or iPad, as well as networked computers running iTunes or similar. Of course AirPlay streaming requires a home Wi-Fi® network and a wired connection between your player and home network.

Marantz NA8005 Music Streamer

High-Quality Circuitry And Components: This player exemplifies Marantz's commitment to superb sound. The NA8005 uses high-quality parts throughout, chosen only after extensive listening tests. You'll hear a spacious, lifelike soundstage emerge from deep silence, thanks in part to shielding that prevents digital noise from affecting sensitive analogue circuits.

A "DAC" Of All Trades: You've probably noticed that digital music files that sound fine though a set of earbuds often sound thin and flat when played through a stereo system. The NA8005's advanced Cirrus DAC (digital-to-audio converter) will surprise you with its ability to spin straw into gold, sonically speaking. Its impressive number-crunching power handles digital audio signals all the way up to 192kHz/24-bit, reproducing your favorite music files with natural warmth and rich detail. Take advantage of the great DAC in this player four different ways:

  • Stream digital music over your home network, including files stored on your PC's hard drive and music from the Internet
  • Plug your iPod directly into the front-panel USB "Type A" input
  • Use the player's back-panel USB "Type B" input to play files stored on a PC's hard drive
  • Connect your CD player to the back-panel optical or coaxial digital input

No matter which way you choose, the NA8005 will breathe new life into your favourite digital music sources and let you hear them in a way you've never heard before.

Discover New Music: An Internet-powered player like the NA8005 is a great way to broaden your listening horizons. You'll have easy access to thousands of Internet radio stations, plus you can tune in music services, like Spotify. Use Spotify to explore a vast catalogue of music without paying for each song (there's just a small monthly subscription fee). Although the NA8005 doesn't have a built-in radio tuner (AM/FM/DAB+) you can listen to 1000's of radio stations over the Internet via vTuner.

Quick Access To Your Favourites: You can also connect your iPhone or iPod touch directly using the front-panel USB input (and there's a free iPod/iPhone App you can download at the iTunes Store). And for wireless playback, check out the optional RX101 Bluetooth module.

Unleash Your iTunes Music: Apple's exciting AirPlay technology lets you access your favourite music from your iPhone®, iPad™, iPod touch®, or your iTunes library on your computer using this Marantz receiver. You'll be able to control iTunes and see music information, including your album art, track titles, and artist info on your compatible Apple device, or on your TV if your Marantz receiver is equipped with a video output. First you will need a free firmware upgrade. Go to the Marantz website for instructions on how to download and activate the upgrade. Requires a wireless home network. Receiver requires wired connection to the router.

Our Take On The Marantz NA8005 Music Streamer

Based on Marantz’s acclaimed NA-11S1 Reference Class audio player, the NA8005 offers primo components for superior playback of all your hi-res audio files at a much more manageable price – though at $1,400+ it’s still not for the timid. One surprising feature the NA8005 doesn’t offer is Wi-Fi. All of its network functionality must be accessed via Ethernet connection, which could present a potential hassle, depending upon where exactly your modem/router  is setup. However, we’re guessing for many users the sound quality of this unit may trump the wireless inconvenience factor. And further to that point, the NA8005's superb sound is about more than just the Cirrus Logic DAC. Its output stage uses Marantz's Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Modules, which ensure highly accurate, detailed sound is passed along to your amp or receiver. Build quality is what we always expect from Marantz — both solid and elegant, with a metal front panel, extra metal bottom plate, and large feet to minimise vibrations that can introduce distortion into the signal.
