About Cambridge Audio AXA25 Stereo Amplifier

The AX Series is the new entry level range from Cambridge Audio, the classic British audio brand that’s been tickling audiophile ears for half a century. The AX Series has been designed and engineered in the UK and strikes the perfect note between performance and affordability.

The AXA25 is the entry level amplifier in the range which nevertheless has all the essentials a good amplifier needs. With 25 watts per channel it is based on Cambridge Audio’s tried and true amplifier design elements including an oversize toroidal transformer to make sure the amp has plenty of puff to get your speakers up and partying. The speaker connections are substantial binding posts so thicker gauge wire can be accommodated, although it is also very easy to use 'banana' plugs by removing the plastic inserts at the rear of the terminals.

Cambridge AXA25 Amp With CD Player (Sold Separately)

One way Cambridge have trimmed the price down on the AXA25 is to delete the dedicated phono input. Good sounding phono circuits are not cheap, so wise thinking in design has left it out and that's not necessarily a negative because you can still connect a Turntable via a pair of the rear line-level inputs. However, you will need to use a Turntable with a built-in phono pre-amp or a 'normal' turntable and separate phono pre-amp. That will still leave you with three pairs of stereo line-level connections on the rear for connecting all your other sources. Also on the rear panel is a useful USB input for things like Google Chromecast devices and on the front, a convenient 3.5mm input for smartphones. Balance, bass and treble controls help with tailoring the sound to your liking, and these can be quite useful if the track you're playing isn't the best. This sleek looking amplifier is housed in a substantial chassis which sports a stylish thick grey front panel which looks great in any interior. Also, easy to see the controls!

More Reasons To Buy

Cambridge are known for their beautiful Hi-Fi components and there is no exception with the AX Series. The AX Series pairs high quality with outstanding value for money and is the perfect way for the Hi-Fi curious to build their first stacking separates system. Taking design cues from Cambridge's award-winning Edge and CX ranges, Cambridge have designed the AX Series components to be a straightforward introduction to Great British Sound.

Why Separates?: Hi-fi separates offer lots of system flexibility. You can mix and match what is in your stack, as and when you want to. Splitting out each specific job into separate units also gives better end results, as each component can concentrate exclusively on performing a single task to the best of its ability.

System Building: So, which of these units do you need in your hi-fi system? At the very least you will need an Amplifier which is the heart of any system, connected to a pair of speakers to fill your room with sound and last but definitely not least you will need a source component, which these days could be a Turntable, CD Player, Music Streamer, Computer or even your Smart Phone.

Power Your Music Player or Bluetooth Receiver: Next to the audio inputs you’ll also find a handy USB power socket. This is perfect for powering Bluetooth receivers or smart audio streaming devices, such as the Google Chromecast Audio, without having to find another spare mains socket.

Cables: Don’t forget, you’re going to need cables to connect everything up! You’ll need Interconnects to connect your separates together and Speaker Cable for your speakers. We have outlined a few recommendations below which match well with a Cambridge AX Series based system.

Speakers: The last pieces of the puzzle are of course the speakers, and you don’t need to invest in huge hefty ones for serious room filling sound. We have a range of reasonably priced speakers to get your hi-fi going without compromising on quality.
