Rega Elicit R Stereo AmplifierThe Rega Elicit-R stereo integrated amplifier is built to the highest standards and designed to deliver the best possible audio performance whilst remaining simple to use and easy to setup. It also sound warm and detailed with enough stick to drive even difficult speakers to high volumes.

The Rega Elicit R is truly a high performance stereo amplifier. Designed and engineered to the highest standard to deliver the best possible audio performance whilst remaining simple to use and easy to setup.

Rega's recent development work in amplifier design circuitry has allowed them to further advance the Elicit-R performance by using new and improved power amplifier circuits (based around the hugely successful Rega Brio-R amplifier). Combined with FET discrete line pre-amplifiers and a programmable stepped attenuator volume control ensuring greater levels of performance and control over the delivery of power. The Elicit-R is supplied with the Solaris system remote handset offering full control over this and all of the current R range of electronics.

Technology:The output amplifier used in the Elicit-R was born after extensive research by Rega's engineers to develop a low source Class-A* driver stage. Based around a complementary pair of Darlington output transistors forming an emulated Class-A driver stage.

Special Features: The Rega Elicit-R includes a high quality built-in moving magnet phono stage designed to maximise the potential of your vinyl system. A simple switch on the rear panel allows the same input to be switched to a secondary set at line level. This input is specially configured to offer further isolation and reduce noise. This makes it ideally suited for connection of more sensitive products such as an external MM or MC phono stage.

If your system is not vinyl based the same socket allows this line input to be used with any line level product (such as a CD player or DAC) ensuring maximised connectivity via the back panel. These features coupled with Polypropylene capacitors throughout the signal path, improved power supplies, high output power to 105 Watts per channel - which is more than enough for serious music listeners and connected to the right set of speakers - is all housed in a superb custom designed case to give the new owner a sharp looking piece of kit. There are no tone controls or a front headphone jack. Rega considers these 'extras' compromise the overall sound quality and the truth is to add these and meet the Rega standard would quite probably double the price! However, there are two Line-Level outputs and these could be used for a number of things including a dedicated headphone amplifier. With the Line-Level outputs you can also add the Elicit-R to a home theatre system and use it for the main speakers.

A single rotary dial serves as both the volume control and the input selector (press the mode button to switch between the two). There are satisfyingly audible clicks when pressing the buttons and turning the dial to select one of five inputs. The volume dial is surrounded by 20 LEDs that light up as you turn clockwise, although we wish the stepped attenuator control had a touch more resistance when clicking through the volume levels. You also have the option to dim the LEDs on the front panel – press the mute button in ‘Input’ mode to choose from three brightness levels.

Solaris Remote Control: A dedicated system remote designed for the current 'R' range of Rega remote controllable products. Lightweight and ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in the hand whilst presenting the most commonly used button at your fingertips. The Solaris is backwards compatible with all older IR Rega products.

*The design of the Elicit-R benefits greatly from running warm. To ensure best performance it is recommended to allow the unit to reach optimum temperature before critical listening. This varies between 15 and 60 minutes depending on whose advice you listen to!

Our Take

The Rega Elicit-R will deliver the best possible audio performance whilst remaining simple to use and easy to setup. It is not a 'cheap' amplifier, but when you spend an hour or so with it, you will understand why we all like it. If you don’t require a built in DAC or a headphone amplifier and simply want to spin some LP’s without having to purchase an outboard phono stage, then you must take a closer look at the Elicit-R because this is where it excels...superb analogue sound! Don't compare the 105 Watts per channel output against a home theatre receiver listing the same number because they are world's apart. The key point is that your speakers have a sensitivity of at least 86db because then the amp will have enough power for most listeners. We like the fact that the Elicit-R keeps to the pattern set by Roy Gandy and team and basically that is to give you the customer a product that maintains the integrity of the music to the highest possible standards with a product that is robust in every area.
