About The Focal Chora Centre Speaker
The Focal Chora Centre speaker is the perfect complement to the Chora range of stand mount and floorstanding speakers when home theatre is part of the recipe. With a trickle-down aluminium/magnesium inverted-dome tweeter and proprietary Slatefiber mid/bass drivers in a well sized and beautifully finished cabinet, the Chora Centre is designed to fit in well with your décor whilst offering flexible placement and involving home theatre sound.
Made in France at Focal’s specialist manufacturing facilities, Chora is a new generation of high-quality yet affordable loudspeakers, featuring unique technology and design. It’s great what you get for your money with this medium sized centre. The Focal Chora Centre speaker utilizes a two-way design with a 25mm TNF aluminium/magnesium inverted-dome tweeter and a two 165mm slatefiber cone mid/bass drivers for precise and dynamic sound. Thanks to these exclusive Focal technologies, it reproduces dialogue, voices and all other “front” film sound effects with exceptional clarity and level of detail! A whisper, a hummed tune, a cry of joy or anger, or birdsong ... you won’t miss a thing, and everything will spark your emotions.
TNF Aluminium/Magnesium Tweeter: The Focal Chora Centre features a single 25mm TNF inverted-dome tweeter made of aluminium and magnesium alloy. The inverted-dome technology allows optimal energy transfer and wide dispersion. The aluminium/magnesium makeup guarantees exception performance in terms of stiffness and damping, thus ensuring a subtle blend of softness and dynamics. Performance of the TNF tweeter is enhanced by its new Poron suspension material. Poron is a polyurethane micro-cellular foam which has a porous open-cell structure. This memory foam is very light which means that the suspension will not become damaged or compressed with time. It is an essential element of the TNF tweeter as the suspension allows the dome to move freely. Its uniform and constant physical properties ensure excellent stability and linearity, along with extreme accuracy and distortion-free sound. The result is a sound which is soft and precise and which offers improved harmonics richness and a more precise soundstage
Dual Slatefiber Mid/Bass Drivers: The Chora Centre uses Slatefiber cone technology in its mid/bass drivers. Slatefiber technology, exclusive to Focal, involves the use of recycled, non-woven carbon fibres applied as a sandwich between two layers of thermoplastic polymer. In their quest for perfection, Focal engineers have opted to use non-woven carbon fibres, all pointing in the same direction to achieve even greater rigidity and better damping. Manufactured in the Focal workshops using an ultra-modern industrial tool, the "slate" effect of the cone provides better damping and rigidity, but also lightness - the three "essentials" of a good loudspeaker driver.
Sealed Acoustic Suspension Enclosure: The Focal Chora Centre's speaker cabinet uses solid MDF construction, internal bracing, and a non-parallel inner wall structure to reduce internal resonance for less coloration. This sealed acoustic suspension enclosure ensures the sound is tight and precise offering wonderfully engaging vocal clarity and detail.
Grille: The Chora Centre speaker comes with a detachable magnetic cloth grille that covers the mid/bass drivers. The grille has to be aligned just right with the front of the cabinet to magnetically attach to the speaker. The tweeter features its own integrated, non-removable grille
Binding Posts: The Focal Chora Centre is outfitted with a pair of binding post terminals that will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG) and single 'banana' plugs. You'll need to remove two plastic caps from the binding post terminals to accommodate banana plugs. Some say you can use pin connectors or spade connectors which is technically true but not what we recommend.
Mounting & Placement Options: The Chora Centre can be mounted on a cabinet or on a compatible centre speaker stand, sold separately. A special base is supplied with the speaker which allows the Chora Centre to be angled upwards towards the listening position, improving the sound image for increased immersion
Our Take On The Focal Chora Centre Speaker
If your 2-channel audio system is built around Focal's Chora speakers, the Chora Centre is the natural choice for the move to home theatre. Like the Chora bookshelf and floor-standing models, it borrows advanced technologies originally developed for Focal's acclaimed Utopia speakers. Most importantly, it uses the Chora woofer and tweeter, guaranteeing seamless voice-matched sound across your front soundstage. Its reasonable size means the Chora Centre will fit into most domestic cinema settings quite easily, but don’t be fooled, the Chora Centre has a big open dynamic sound with great vocal articulation and clarity which belies its modest dimensions. If you are contemplating Focal Choras and are thinking about the move to home theatre then this is the centre to have
