Wharfedale’s Diamond 11.0 maybe diminutive in size, but it delivers performance by the proverbial truckload. The Diamond range of loudspeakers need little introduction, with nearly three decades of supremacy within the hi-fi sector, numerous international awards and over 1 million pairs sold worldwide.

About Wharfedale Diamond 11.0 Speakers

Wharfedale Wireless Works was founded by Gilbert Briggs in 1932, soon after he built his very first loudspeaker in the cellar of his home in Ilkley, Yorkshire. This sleepy little market town was located in the valley of the river “Wharfe” – an area known to this day as ‘Wharfedale’. This unlikely location would see the birth of a brand that has become recognized all over the world, synonymous with quality in high-fidelity reproduction.

In 1981 the first Wharfedale Diamond speaker was born. The rather unassuming small box took the industry by storm. Small cabinets and the stiff, yet light polypropylene driver meant a very fast, tight sound and compact, accurate two-way drivers produced a fantastic stereo image. It quickly became a best seller and the Diamond range has continued to this day as a staple in the Wharfedale catalogue.

Now, with more than 75 years of setting the standards in perfecting loudspeaker performance, Wharfedale, in order to remain at the forefront of audio, has dedicated 1.5 million square feet to design & manufacturing in which every single product and process takes place in-house. With this ability to control every single part of the process, Wharfedale’s speakers achieve a harmony in performance and design rarely seen elsewhere.

About Wharfedale:Although the Diamond series is wholly made in China, the design is still all done in-house in Britain. Frankly, they couldn't afford to make them over there and still sell at a competitive price. However IAG in China has proven that they can deliver top-notch quality. In addition to Wharfedale, they also manufacture other marquee brands including Audiolab, Ekco, Luxman, Mission and Quad and all to uncompromising standards.

This incredible value model offers tightly focused sound, a wide and deep soundstage and an extended, transparent delivery. Don't judge this speaker by its modest and super-compact size. Whether playing classic-rock favourites or mellow jazz, the 11.0 exhibits spacious dynamics and astute control no matter the program material. It begs to be placed in an office, den, bedroom, porch, lounge, or modest-sized listening room--anywhere you want to hear rich, involving sound.

Enhancements Focus on Delivering Best-Possible Sound Quality: How does Wharfedale do it? Improving on past award-winning designs, the 11.0 features a soft-dome tweeter custom-made to present clear, high frequency ranges up to 20kHz. A 100mm (4") Kevlar bass driver and twin rear-firing ports bring up the bottom end and yield tremendous punch. Other enhancements, ranging from a low-profile chassis to stronger cabinet walls and a composite front-baffle panel, all contribute to reduced vibration, lower distortion, and increased rigidity. Lets look at these enhancements more closely.

Composite Front Baffle Panel: The front baffle features a composite panel structure with a black finish. This contributes to the speaker’s smart look, but more importantly to its improved sound quality. It reduces the effects of vibration and provides a stable material or base for the drive units.

The Mid/Bass Drive Unit: To make the most of this strong cabinet, the main drive unit chassis has been enhanced with a massive flange that is secured using six screws, thus improving its stability. A diamond pattern has also been moulded into the surround of the Kevlar cone; this is more than just cosmetic as the pattern reduces and damps standing waves in the surround, yielding a cleaner high-frequency acoustic roll-off and enhancing the ability of the mid/bass unit and tweeter to work as a cohesive whole.

Gorgeous Finishes: Visually, the Diamond 11.0 practically disappears into its surrounding environment. Even when you might not notice it, you'll adore the gorgeous cabinet finish - available in four equally striking colours. The compact form extends to functionality. On the back, unlike many speakers whose parallel terminals cause problems with (or outright prevent connections with) thick cables, the 11.0 boasts 'solid' terminals that ensure the best-possible connectivity and allow for a wide range of options including bare wire or 'banana' plugs.
