About The Cambridge Audio Solo Pre-amplifier

With the Cambridge Audio Solo enjoy the unique warmth of vinyl and the fine analogue detail in this quality but inexpensive phono pre-amp.

There's something unique about listening to vinyl, something that digital media can't reproduce in quite the same way. While the latest digital formats sound incredible, there's detail and warmth that can't always be expressed in 0s and 1s, crackle that adds character, and live music simply comes to life. Most audio gear built since the mid 1980's and budget price Home Theatre Receivers do not have the ability to hook-up a Turntable without a separate phono pre-amplifier. With the Cambridge Solo that's quickly rectified, as this phono pre-amp simply plugs into any standard AUX input, allowing your records to be heard at the correct volume level. Even if your hi-fi does have a built-in phono stage, it's still worth considering the Solo.

Why Consider The Solo? It's very easy to add noise in the phono stage, which is why Cambridge Audio designed the Solo using premium components chosen for exceptional accuracy, amplifying the signal without distorting it. This high quality Moving Magnet design features single-ended 'Class A' gain stages and discrete transistors, instead of the more common integrated circuits. This gives less cross-talk and interference across the signal path. What this means for sound quality is a rich, full-bodied sound that's also low on distortion and very quiet in terms of background noise. The folk at Cambridge also know that not every phono cartridge delivers perfectly even left and right channel output signals, so they gave this pre-amp a fine-tune balance control that lets you correct any differences. There is also a-state-of-the-art switch mode power supply and a new surface mounted circuit board layout that reduces unwanted noise from your listening experience.

Compatibility: Cambridge Audio has a passion for creating high-value audio gear that captures every last drop of detail and emotion from your music. Cambridge Audio’s Solo has been designed to complement the wide range of entry-level Turntables available today. This high-quality yet extraordinary value pre-amplifier contains the amplification required to enable you to connect your Turntable to your stereo Amplifier or Home Theatre Receiver. The Solo works with all popular Turntables that use a Moving Magnet cartridge (the type with a removable stylus or needle).

Do I Really Need A Separate Phono Preamplifier? As stated above,Some Amplifiers and Receivers are already able to "technically" support Turntable connections but these in-built phono pre-amplifiers are massively out-performed by the Solo. We believe that any serious vinyl lover will immediately hear the benefits. Connected using a single stereo audio interconnect cable, the Solo is set up in seconds allowing you to appreciate stunning clarity, musicality and resolution from your vinyl collection. So come on and rediscover the hidden depths of your vinyl with the wonderfully transparent-sounding Cambridge Solo Phono pre-amplifier.
