About B&W 706 S2 Speakers

The Bowers & Wilkins 706 S2 bookshelf is a great choice for either stereo music systems, as well as multi-channel home theatre setups and definitely has the acoustic heft to satisfy the demands of bigger rooms. Sadly this doesn't mean you can locate them in a "concert-hall" type area and expect them to be shaking the windows 20 metres away, but if you have a big room but still intend to sit relatively close to the 706 S2's, then you'll probably be very happy. You will certainly bring the breathtaking clarity and definition of studio sound home with the new 706 S2 speakers.

Replacing the CM Series, the range combines studio-grade 800 Series Diamond technologies with purpose-built innovations to elevate home audio to an entirely new level. And all this from room-friendly cabinets designed to fit beautifully into your home environment. The 706 S2 is a bookshelf/standmount speaker with the acoustic heft to satisfy the demands of bigger rooms, thanks to its large midrange/bass drive unit. The 706 S2 speaker delivers a sound that feels fully formed and entirely true to life, with outstanding detail, spaciousness preserved intact and real musical insight into recordings.

B&W 706 S2 Bookshelf Speakers - Available in 3 stunning colours

The 700 Series is an entirely new range of speakers. Compared with the outgoing CM Series, every transducer has changed and radically improved. To do this, B&W have borrowed some of the most advanced technologies from their flagship 800 Series Diamond, adapting them to suit a more attainable price point. And they’ve introduced entirely new technologies, designed specifically for this range.

Decoupled Carbon Dome Tweeter: A 25mm Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter is purpose-built for the 700 Series. Delivering a dramatic improvement on B&W's aluminium double dome tweeter (found in the 600 Series), the Carbon Dome tweeter raises the breakup threshold to 47kHz, for pinpoint imaging accuracy and detail. Synthetic gel is used to cushion the decoupled tweeter, with the assembly isolated from the mounting hardware. Decoupling reduces audible distortion by preventing cabinet vibrations from reaching the tweeter. The result is breathtaking clarity and definition.

Continuum Cone Midbass/Midrange Driver: The 706 S2 bookshelf loudspeaker features a single 165mm Continuum cone midbass/midrange driver, borrowed from B&W's 800 Series Diamond. We have include an image in our product image carousel. Thanks to its woven-coated material and composite construction, the Continuum cone provides a natural and open sound by avoiding the abrupt transitions in behavior that can impair the performance of a conventional drive unit and cause distortion. As a result, voice and instruments are delivered with purity and precision.

Flowport Technology: This is a very clever engineering advancement. The B&W 706 S2's utilise Flowport Technology to create smooth, deep, and efficient bass response. Its bass reflex enclosure features a rear-firing, dimpled flared port that provides natural bass response without turbulent noise or distortion. If you want to reduce the volume of bass without moving the speaker further from the wall, fit the included foam plug into the rear-firing port for lesser bass response.

Acoustically Transparent Magnetic Grille: The Bowers & Wilkins 706 S2 bookshelf loudspeaker comes with an acoustically transparent magnetic grille that's easy to install, looks great, and doesn't get in the way of the sound.

Dual Binding Post Terminals: The bookshelf speaker has two sets of heavy-duty binding posts connected by jumper straps. The binding post terminals will accept bare wire, spade connectors, or banana plugs. There are plastic inserts that will need to be removed from the binding post terminals in order to use banana plugs. Using the dual binding posts terminals, you can choose to bi-amp or bi-wire the speaker.

  • Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier.
  • Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. Please call us for further details on this option.

Mounting Options: The Bowers & Wilkins 706 S2 bookshelf loudspeakers can be placed on a set of speaker stands (sold separately - see below for recommendations - or other piece of furniture like a shelf or bookcase although these are not really adequate to deliver you the performance the 706 S2's are capable of delivering. There are some included self-adhesive rubber feet which will reduce unwanted vibration and protect your furniture from scratches if you decide to not mount them on stands.

Bring Hollywood Home: Providing the ideal balance of high-performance acoustics and living room-friendly dimensions, 700 Series speakers are a superlative choice for home cinema sound. Pair them with one of the two centre-channel speakers in the range and the powerful DB4S subwoofer, and you’re set for a truly transformational movie experience.
