About The B&W 702 Signature Speakers

The B&W 702 Signature floorstanding speaker is the top-of-the-range model that adds a beautiful Midnight Blue Metallic finish as well as substantial crossover upgrades to take this already wonderful sounding speaker to new heights. We look forward to demonstrating these superb speakers from Bowers & Wilkins.

The new 705 Signature and 702 Signature models share a common philosophy with their predecessors: like previous Signatures, the new models are carefully upgraded and lavishly finished loudspeakers that represent the apex of current Bowers & Wilkins design, engineering and manufacturing processes. A huge amount of care and attention has been paid to improving their acoustic performance via an upgraded crossover design, and also to carefully crafting the luxurious new cabinet finish.

B&W 702 Signature Speakers

Launched in 2017, the elegant Bowers & Wilkins 700 Series range of speakers already delivers exceptional performance thanks to its careful use of technologies first seen in the high-end 800 Series Diamond, such as the Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top assembly, unique Continuum cone drivers and Aerofoil profile bass drivers. Used in combination with bespoke 700 Series technologies such as the Carbon Dome tweeter plus carefully optimised and rigid cabinets, the result is a range of loudspeakers as superb to listen to as it is to look at.

As Signature products, the new 705 & 702 Signature have received further, detailed improvements enabled by upgraded crossover designs and components. Both models now feature specially treated and upgraded bypass capacitors sourced from Mundorf, larger heatsinking and, in the case of the 702, an upgraded LF capacitor on the bass section of the crossover. In tandem with the immense benefits both models enjoy as a result of their Tweeter-on-Top configuration, these upgrades improve the already-remarkable resolution, openness and spatial retrieval on offer, lending them an even-more polished, refined and involving sound.

Upgraded Finish

As with the Datuk Gloss Signature models, the new Midnight Metallic Blue 702 and 705 Signature are finished to sumptuous standards. Inspired by the Midnight Metallic Blue paint offered on the iconic Bowers & Wilkins Nautilus, the new 702 and 705 Signature are finished in seven coats of metallic-finish paint and lacquer to produce a rich, lustrous finish. To further accentuate and highlight the quality of finish on each model, both Signature speakers have bright metal trim rings around the mid/bass and midrange cones plus bright, silver-finished tweeter grilles. Finally, both models have a Signature identity plate to their rear panel, turning each speaker into a genuine and unique piece of art.

Director of Sales at Bowers & Wilkins Australia, John Martin, said “Like our previous Signature releases, these two special Signature versions of our highly regarded 702 S2 and 705 S2 are destined to become classics. Whether you buy them for their next-level performance or their stunning finish, or both, you’ll be buying something that is unique, exclusive and timeless, to be enjoyed for many years to come”.

Bring the breathtaking clarity and definition of studio sound home with the new 700 Series. Replacing the CM Series, the range combines studio-grade 800 Series Diamond technologies with purpose-built innovations to elevate home audio to an entirely new level. And all this from room-friendly cabinets designed to fit beautifully into your home environment.

Featuring a Carbon Dome tweeter in a solid-body housing and a decoupled Continuum™ midrange, the 700 Series’ flagship floorstander brings studio-quality sound to your home audio set up. The speaker relays textural details with goosebump-inducing accuracy, making even large-scale recordings sound stunningly lifelike.

The 700 Series is an entirely new range of speakers. Compared with the outgoing CM Series, every transducer has changed and radically improved. To do this, B&W have borrowed some of the most advanced technologies from their flagship 800 Series Diamond, adapting them to suit a more attainable price point. And they’ve introduced entirely new technologies, designed specifically for this range.

Solid Body Tweeter: Milled from a solid block of aluminium, the solid body tweeter housing design creates an acoustically optimised housing for the tweeter – one that’s exceptionally inert and resistant to resonances.

Carbon Dome Tweeter: Carbon Dome tweeters are a brand new technology purpose-built for the 700 Series. Delivering a dramatic improvement on the aluminium double-dome tweeter, they raise the breakup threshold to 47kHz, for pinpoint imaging accuracy and detail.

Continuum Cone: First introduced with the 800 Series Diamond, the Continuum cone represents the biggest step-change in midrange performance since Kevlar. Its woven, coated material provides highly controlled break-up, resulting in a more open, neutral midrange.

Decoupled Midrange: The midrange driver in the floor-standers feature a decoupled design, adapted from a similar system in the 800 Series Diamond. Decoupling reduces cabinet colouration, and boosts midrange clarity.

Aerofoil Profile Cone: The new Aerofoil Profile bass cone has the same variable thickness design as the bass cones in 800 Series Diamond speakers. Developed using advanced computer modelling techniques, it provides stiffness and rigidity where it’s needed most, for deep and dynamic bass.

FlowPort: Great bass depends on a smoothly regulated airflow. Flowport minimises turbulence by using dimples, like a golf ball. They generate tiny eddy currents, over which air flows smoothly and silently. Bass sounds smooth and tight at all volumes.

Craftsman Cabinet Finishes: While sound is always the first priority, all good manufacturer's recognise that a speaker is also a piece of furniture and important to most buyers. So, attention to detail is vital to ensure the 700 Series look as beautiful as they sound. Therefore, 700 Series cabinets use high-quality materials such as real wood veneers, with concealed screw fixings for a stunning, clean design. But these features aren’t just for show: solid cabinet construction and unbroken surfaces help limit distortion.

So while B&W have paid a lot of attention to what goes on inside a 700 Series speaker, as you can see they haven’t forgotten about what’s happening on the outside. Thanks to high-quality finishes and painstaking attention to design detail, the 700 Series will fit harmoniously and elegantly into the home environment. Magnetic grilles mean no mounting features and an acoustically-optimised tweeter grille provides protection.

B&W 702 Signature Speakers Review

In leading recording studios, music that will soon be heard everywhere is heard first through Bowers & Wilkins speakers. “Bowers & Wilkins speakers are the only speakers I have found that enable me to accurately listen to how the original performance has been recorded.” - Peter Cobbin, producer and sound engineer. Recent feature film work includes Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Doctor Strange and Alien: Covenant.
