Product Description

The B&W 607 Bookshelf Speaker from the new 600 Series shows that beauty runs far more than skin deep. Beneath the minimalist exteriors, technologies such as Decoupled Double Dome Tweeters & Continuum Cone Midrange drivers offer a super high level of audio performance. Fill your home with beautiful Bowers & Wilkins sound.

The Bowers & Wilkins 607 Bookshelf Speakers are ideal for both audiophile stereo and home theatre applications in small to medium sized rooms, delivering serious performance and amazing value.

The 607 is the smaller bookshelf speaker in the new 600 Series yet still delivers outstanding power, accuracy and musicality. This stand mount design features a refined and upgraded version of the Decoupled Double Dome tweeter and a brand new Continuum cone FST mid/bass driver. The result is a loudspeaker ideal for both high-performance stereo and surround sound applications, delivering serious performance and amazing value.

Double Dome Tweeter: The 607 features a Decoupled Double Dome tweeter - technology evolved from the Bowers & Wilkins 700 Series. The double dome design uses an extremely thin aluminium dome for lightness, surrounded by a thicker aluminium ring for rigidity. The result is a far more precise treble performance. While the tweeter looks like it’s completely integrated into the cabinet of each speaker in the 600 Series, it’s actually kept physically isolated from the enclosure that surrounds it. The tweeter sits in a ring of gel that acoustically decouples it from its housing, so performance isn’t hit by unwanted resonances and vibrations. Imaging and dispersion are improved, delivering a more natural, spacious sound.

Continuum Cone Technology & Fixed Suspension Transducer (FST): The 607 features B&W’s award-winning Continuum cone technology, which creates a pure and precise soundscape. Developed over an eight-year period and first featured on the flagship 800 Series Diamond models, the Continuum cone has been integrated into the sixth generation of the critically acclaimed 607 to transform the performance you expect from a speaker at this price. It delivers a cleaner, more precise sound, to a wider group of listeners. The combination of Continuum and Fixed Suspension Transducer maximises the effect. The edge of the cone is mounted in a narrow ring of foam. Narrow so that when it moves it radiates as little sound as possible. And foam carefully chosen to convert unwanted energy into heat, not sound. This 'surroundless' suspension minimises distortion by converting unwanted energy into heat, not sound.

Simple Crossovers: The crossover sends the audio signal to the correct driver, depending on frequency. The simpler this component is, the better. The high-quality crossovers in the 607 use superior Mundorf capacitors for simply better audio.

Cabinets: The new 600 Series is designed to stylishly and subtly integrate with any room design. A lot of attention has been paid to what goes on inside a 600 Series speaker, but that doesn't mean the outside has been neglected. Attention to detail is vital to ensure they look as beautiful as they sound, so they use high-quality materials.

But these features aren’t just for show: solid cabinet construction and unbroken surfaces help limit distortion. B&W have removed grille pegs and replaced them with magnets, while moving the port to the rear of the cabinet, creating a modern and premium aesthetic, wrapped with a matte black or white finish.

In The News

“The most evident difference in our audition came from the middle of the line up in the new 606 bookshelf speakers. Listening to a gorgeous recording from John Lee Hooker’s Canned Heat sessions, the 606 instantly outpunched their 685 predecessors. The guitar was smoother, warmer, and more natural sounding, while Hooker’s voice had more pepper to its tone thanks to better detail and more easily accessible nuances.

We had a similar experience with the floorstanding 603 speakers. When compared to the 683 on a Bob Dylan track, the 603 offered a smoother, warmer tone to the guitar’s nylon strings, less harshness and bite to the harmonica, and notably better clarity from ambient sounds such as the cicadas at the beginning of the track.

On the next song from deadmau5, the 603 were able to reproduce a massive amount of bass for just a stereo pair, to the point that we could actually feel the bass in the air without hearing a single trace of audible distortion.” Digital Trends

Our Take

To truly appreciate the difference the new 600 series offers you really need to hear them back to back with their predecessors, something we were able to do. The performance improvement was immediately impressive, with the new speakers sounding more organic, less coloured, and more accurate, to boot.

Overall impressions of the 600 Series revealed smoother, more detailed sound with a broader soundstage and better accuracy than their predecessors. And at these prices, that’s something to be excited about.
