Overview

There should be nothing routine about your home theatre or even TV experience. Every time you sit down to watch a movie with multi-channel surround sound or chill out with your favourite album, you should be enthralled, astonished, impressed, mystified, transported...and above all else, indulged. Bill Low and his engineering team at AudioQuest work to ensure that your home entertainment experience is the best it can be with their "Do No Harm" philosophy. And understandably a crucial component of true high-fidelity audio and video is secure, stable, clear data transmission.

More Than Just Speed: Since HDMI's inception, the focus of HDMI cable quality has always been on speed - Gigabytes-per-second. Unfortunately, this focus is misleading. Historically, it has been assumed that higher speeds meant better cable performance, however this has been wrong. Because HDMI licensing mandates a maximum output rate of 10.2 Gbps, no device can output data at any higher rates. Accordingly, claims that HDMI cables rated as high as 29 Gbps are superior are irrelevant, especially since most media output-data at less than 10.2 Gbps.

For this reason, AudioQuest redirects the focus to fidelity and sound and not just speed. Video signals can be fairly easily corrected by A/V components, so that signal fidelity is only of moderate concern which is why some incorrectly assume there is no difference in digital cables. Audio signals, however, cannot be easily or accurately corrected once the signal has degraded due to poor transmission, so AQ HDMI cables are dedicated to exceptional and unprecedented audio-signal transmission. From conductor materials and geometry to dielectric insulation and precision of manufacture, they deliver industry-leading audio-signal transmission ideal for high definition, multi-channel home theatre applications.

The key to their success is conductor material. Beginning with high-fidelity solid long-grain copper and adding progressively more silver plating, these HDMI cables achieve increasingly higher-integrity signal transmission. Carbon HDMI adds an impressive 5% silver-plating to its predecessors’ solid-core copper conductors. Like all AudioQuest HDMI cables, Carbon uses Solid High-Density Polyethylene Insulation and precise geometry. In-Wall Rated: Over recent years there has been some work to make cables both safer and easier to use in custom installations or where the cable by necessity has to be located out-of-sight. This AQ HDMI cable has a smooth and relatively flexible outer PVC jacket that is CL3/FT4-rated making this cable ideal for in-wall installations. 

HDMI 1.4-Compliant To Support Technologies Like 3D TV: One of the most exciting new technologies is 3D TV. A 3D video connection between a 3D Blu-ray player and a 3D TV must be able to simultaneously pass dual 1080p video signals along with lossless audio. The AudioQuest Carbon HDMI cable is version HDMI 1.4 compatible. This means the HDMI cable is High-Speed rated and supports transfer of 1080p/120Hz, 4k, and 3D video; as well as supports ARC (Audio Return Channel) and Ethernet Channel function so is certified to handle the maximum data rate that HDMI allows — 10.2Gbps.

Note: 4K or Ultra-High Definition Support enables video resolutions of upto 4096 x 2160 pixels which are way beyond current 1080p technology. Solid Core Conductors For Better Signal Transfer: AudioQuest is known for their superior build quality, and their 'Carbon' HDMI cables are no exception. The 'Carbon' cable uses solid 5% Silver-Plated LGC (Long-Grain Copper) conductors - twice that of 'Chocolate' - to eliminate inter-strand distortion and reduce jitter effectively making sure your components get all the picture and sound information something that is difficult if not impossible for low budget cables and even more so in longer lengths. Carbon's solid Polyethylene insulation ensures critical signal-pair geometry. 

Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation: Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. Carbon HDMI uses air-filled Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation because air absorbs next to no energy and Polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to all the air in Foamed-PE, it causes much less of the out-of-focus effect common to other materials.

High Speed Data Capacity: All AudioQuest Carbon HDMI cables up to 10 metres long can output-data that meets or exceeds the 10.2 Gbps maximum data rate specified for HDMI and are "standards approved" High Speed with Ethernet cables. This means that all AudioQuest cables up to 10 metres long are capable of transmitting 100% of the data required for all of HDMI’s current audio/video features including multi-channel high-resolution audio, 1080p and 4K video, and 3D video from Blu-ray. All AudioQuest HDMI cables will deliver 100% of the data required for 100Hz/200Hz/600Hz television or projectors.

Ethernet & Audio Return Channel Enabled: AudioQuest's HDMI cable supports ARC (Audio Return Channel) which allows an HDMI-connected TV with a built-in tuner to send audio data "upstream" to a surround audio system, eliminating the need for a separate audio cable. The AudioQuest HDMI cable also adds high-speed networking to it HDMI link, allowing you to take full advantage of your IP-enabled devices without a separate Ethernet cable.

Gold-Plated Connectors: The AudioQuest HDMI cable features gold-plated HDMI standard size (Type-A) connectors for maximum signal transfer. 

Directionality: All audio cables are directional. The correct direction is determined by listening to every batch of metal conductors used in every AudioQuest audio cable. All signal conductors controlled for digital-audio direction in AudioQuest HDMI cables, and care is even taken to run the conductors used in the Audio Return Channel in the opposite direction to ensure the best performance for that application. Arrows are clearly marked on the connectors to ensure superior sound quality.
