About The Atacama Eris Eco 5
For over 25 Years Atacama has produced Award Winning speaker stands, hi-fi racks and AV supports designed to enhance both visually and acoustically the equipment matched with them. The award winning Eris Eco 5 Hi-Fi Rack draws on this vast experience to create what we at Audio Trends think is a beautiful piece of Audio Furniture.
Atacama are a renowned and multi award winning manufacturer of quality hifi and home cinema furniture components, based in Leicester, UK. While many quality hifi stand manufacturing companies market and brand themselves as skilled carpenters and hifi fanatics, Atacama take great pride in offering a product that not only portrays true craftsmanship but also features the innovative brains of an 'engineering company', employing intricate and highly developed methods of reducing and dissipating mechanical noise from your hifi equipment to avoid these parasitic resonances from interfering with different hifi separates.
Featuring high density carbonised bamboo resin composite material for the shelving, The ERIS Eco 5.0 Hi Fi utilizes handmade fully welded powder coated steel frame modules fitted with mini isolation gel pads designed to decouple the framework from the supported bamboo panels. Each module is then isolated from the next via three fully adjustable 8mm carbon steel spikes. To help further dissipate sonic resonance while reducing mass within each shelf, channels have been incorporated into the underside of each bamboo panel. These channels also act as a means of enclosing the main module framework resulting in a hi-fi support that offers excellent value, high performance and a clean, stylish modern design. The ERIS Eco 5 is made in England.
Note: Bamboo is a natural material so colour, texture, grain and age may give a variable appearance to each shelf. Because of this, adding an extra shelf at a later date will introduce a batch / colour tone difference. Where possible order your Eris as a complete modular support with enough levels to fulfill possible future requirements in order to minimise this variation.
This Eris Eco 5 four shelf rack consists of a two shelf base module with a 200mm internal space and 2 single shelf modules. As a standard in Australia, each additional shelf module offers a leg height of 225mm equal to an internal height of 175mm giving a total of 4 levels of support.
Maximum Isolation: Both of the single shelf modules are isolated on heavy duty spikes to ensure optimum performance from your audio system. These shelves are decoupled from the rack framework via mini isolation gel pads to reduce vibration affecting sensitive equipment.
How It Works
To gain maximum performance from your hi-fi or av system, the furniture you place it on is as equally important as all the other components. Each component & cable is susceptible to electrical & mechanical noise, degrading overall system performance. In theory total isolation is desirable, but in reality impossible.
Atacama designs achieve optimum isolation through a combination of high mass components, gel isolation pads and spherical pointed contact points. Aluminium columns eliminate residual magnetism and the adjustable spiked feet allow efficient floor de-coupling.
Our Take On Atacama
Good, strong Hi-Fi furniture is often overlooked. Don't quickly dismiss these crafted products which even at one time in the long distant past we thought were just another stand! Why? One of the most compelling demonstrations that we've experienced here at Audio Trends was a certain British manufacturer demonstrating the importance of a solid, vibration free base for any hi-fi component. We listened to a track with the CD player on a chest of drawers. We then listened to the same track with the CD player on a good rack. Everyone in the room was immediately convinced. Here's a test while CD players are still with us. Hold your CD player in your hands with disc playing and then put it down on your cabinet and listen again to the same passage. If you can't hear any difference then fine, your stand/cabinet is not interfering with the sound. But if you can like most of us hear a difference, then you'll better appreciate the need for a good stand and spread the word accordingly!
