Product Description

Incorporating classic looks and construction combined with high performance, Pro-Ject's aptly named The Classic offers everything the vinyl connoisseur could want.

Pro-Ject, The Classic, To celebrate 25 years in the industry, Pro-Ject has released what can only be described as one of the best looking Turntables on the market. With its retro styling taken from "frame" design popularised by Thorens and Linn from the late 1950's and 60's ensures visually it has what it takes.

Underneath “The Classic” is anything but retro, using two medium-density fibre plinth sections, which allows the motor to be separated from the the bearing and tonearm. Using a specially selected Thermo-Plastic Elastomer, isolates both from each other’s unwanted resonating vibrations.

The Tonearm is another cutting edge design feature, which only a few years ago would have been unthinkable at this price point, Using both carbon and aluminium to produce an extremely light tonearm with reduced damping properties. To finish off the tonearm a nickel-plated counterweight has also been included which keeps the look of “The Classic” true to the retro design without compromising on performance.

Note: The Classic is not supplied with a cartridge. However, this was at the request of many audiophiles world-wide who have their favourites. Choice of cartridge can make a world of difference. Get it right and it is magical but get it wrong and there is a whole heap of pain! Yes, we can help you make the right choice!

Precision-Built For High Performance: The heavy aluminium main platter construction utilises advanced thermo plastic elastomers (TPE*) for optimising resonance behaviour. A drawback for most of the old designs was the platter. Cast platters all have been heavy (which is good for speed constancy and low wow and flutter) but suffered very much from ringing effects which again caused colouration of the sound. The platter of The Classic is precisely machined out of a special aluminium alloy again damped with TPE, which offers special damping abilities. The subplatter / main bearing construction used is a similar system as on the Debut series. It is made of hardened steel/ Bronze bushing/ Teflon bearing mirror, which re-sults in very smooth low noise running smoothness of the bearing.

The main difference to the Debut bearing are the tolerances which are by factor 10 lower and therefore more precise (0.005%). Especially the subplatter is a very sophisticated part which is accurately machined and guarantees a very good isolation between bearing noise and the platter itself.

Best Turntable 2016-2017

"The deck is pre-fitted with a hybrid carbon/alloy tonearm that offers the potential to unleash even greater potential with better pick-ups, and rounds off one of the most stylish, snappy-sounding and user-friendly vinyl sources around. A new classic is born!" EISA

Keep It Clean Mate! To get the best performance, your records need to be clean. Arguably the best device available - especially for the price - is the German designed and made - yes you read correctly - is the Knosti Record Cleaning Machine.  This simple and clever design is easy to use and will remove most dust and grime from the grooves.

Our Take

The Project Classic derives its name from the classic looks of audiophile turntables from the late 50's through to the late 70s but has added innovative high-end technology that uses a compact, simple and elegant form factor. The Classic incorporates a combination of approved belt drive design using a low noise AC motor with an ultra precision frequency DC-driven AC generator for ultimate speed stability. Advanced technology is used for decoupling and the completely new designed tonearm. Dustcover and Ortofon cartridge included. Note, this turntable will not work with the Pro-Ject Speed Box. Speed change is operated manually, or electronically via the Speed Box SE.
