When we talk about home theatre we are really talking about surround sound and the minimum for surround sound is 5.1 which is 5 speakers and 1 subwoofer.
Here's how it works:
- Front: Left, Centre, and Right speakers
- Rear: Two surround speakers behind you
- Bass: One powered subwoofer up front for the low-end punch
Of course, depending on the AV receiver you have you can add other speakers, including additional surround speakers (7.1) so the sound more surrounds you or even Dolby Atmos Speakers (7.1.2) so the sound comes from overhead as well. Another option is to add a second sub (7.2.2) which really ups the excitement.
