The Aaron ATS-1’s are the start in the company’s Audio Technology Series (ATS) and are a very smart 2-Way design that’s equally at home in either a stereo or surround sound system – although a subwoofer may be advantageous in certain situations. The single 173mm bass driver underpins one of the major design concepts. It’s a new and improved version of what Aaron call Low Q ratio alignment which aims to lower distortion, achieve faster response times and improve system efficiency. The Woofer is complemented by the excellent Aaron ‘teardrop’ tweeter.

The Aaron SS-120 can serve dual roles. Although designed primarily as a high-quality surround sound speaker for which it is excellent, we have found that it fits the bill very well when it comes to two-channel stereo applications, especially when the room is small or where the customer does not want the speakers to dominate the room. The SS-120’s include a 136mm bass driver and 25mm tweeter; have a fantastic transient response and ultra linearity, truly excelling in this area.

The Aaron AP-1 was a real surprise package when it first arrived in-store some years ago. Frankly, we were very sceptical that a speaker selling for this price could offer any sort of credible performance. However, we have often been surprised by Aaron and so as always, decided to audition the AP-1 before passing final judgement. The results were and still are amazing.

The Canton Plus XXL is the largest speaker in the Plus series and is an excellent performer. Even though it is one of the largest Satellite speakers on the market, its clever design allows flexible positioning on either a shelf, hung on the wall or placed on a loudspeaker stand. Available in black, silver or white, the Plus XXL blends in with almost any décor, while the 5” two way design ensures it will function seamlessly with a subwoofer.

As the designation implies, the Canton Plus XL is a down-sized version of the Plus XXL. It has the same 25mm aluminium tweeter, but now a 130mm woofer. Power handling is still up to 100 Watts RMS, but the Plus XL is really designed to work in conjunction with a powered subwoofer, then being suitable for operation as front or surround speakers.

We have sold the Plus X for so long, we cannot remember when it first arrived. Based on the highly popular Plus S which we first sold in the late 1970’s this is an amazing product that is at home in both surround sound applications and stereo systems although a subwoofer is an essential. With its rounded and rugged hard plastic cabinet, the Plus X is both visually and audibly superior to similar products.
